I was looking at a poster today at work for a Thanksgiving luncheon. On it was 'green bean casserole', I have heard people talk about it before but not exactly sure what goes in it. I'm sure it can or is vegan? I was thinking, there seems to be a lot of foods that other people know and possibly know well that I've never had.
So my list so far:
Shepherd's pie Green bean casserole
(and I'm sure there is a ton more but that is the start)
What would be on your list?

You should make fat free vegan's green bean casserole!
Hmm, I have never had tamales, or matzoh soup. I'm sure there are many things but I am drawing a blank right now!

I've never had vegan cheesecake, even though cheesecake was one of my favorite deserts as an omni.

(I'm going to steal some from other people's lists.)
Green bean casserole Tamales Matzoh ball soup Some squashes Kugel Turnips Brussel sprouts Beets Bleu cheese (not vegan, obviously!) Yuca Pistachio (preeeetty sure I tried some as a kid, but have no idea what they taste like) Moussaka Millet Most fish (not interested in mock versions, either) Any kind of paté (but it does look scrumptious!) Lima beans Tofu/egg florentine or benedict Strata Endives Potato salad Rutabaga Bok choy Muffuletta sammich (okay, THIS one makes me sad) Tofu chocolate silk pie (once again--sad sad sad)
Please don't be too disappointed in me.

I haven't had a lot of the jewish foods, I think I had matzoh ball soup once. I had to look up muffuletta and strata to see what they were. I also had to look up corn pudding.
kugel corn pudding knish muffuletta strata latke rhubarb pie funnel cake Challah bread (not sure if it could be vegan though ? it seems to be an eggy bread, I saw it at trader joe's)
And I do feel sad for those of you who haven't had tamales before! They are awesome.

I've still never had tempeh and kale. And I'd really really like to try durian. But how to get that stuff? There's a small chance I'll find kale at a farmers market one day, and maybe one of the Asian supermarkets will stock tempeh. I can only wish - and keep my eyes open.

Oh yeah! I haven't had kale. Or Ethiopian food. Or corn pudding, knishes, jackfruit, starfruit, any of that weird produce. I just tried my first pomegranate seed the other day, if you can believe it. The reason I've never had a tamale is the whole corn husk thing and the fact I don't have a proper steaming device. They certainly do tempt me, though. linanil wrote: latke rhubarb pie Both of these need to change. Have you at least had strawberry and rhubarb together before? It's so magical. And latkes are tasty. I could eat them all day long and get fat from them.

+1 on making FFV's green bean casserole, it is delicious!
I have a can of jackfruit that I haven't made yet.
As a nonvegan I never enjoyed cream cheese or sour cream so I haven't had the vegan equivs.

I just chop kale and saute it in olive oil with salt, pepper, and Montreal steak seasoning that someone left at our house years ago. I've been looking for ways to use that stuff up! I never thought I would be a greens person but I LOVE kale this way.

I've never had Ethiopian food, but I really want to try it sometime. The closest thing was an Ethiopian-inspired recipe I found online a long time ago, but I have no idea how much like the real thing it is because I have no basis for comparison.
I've also never had:
Mock duck (or actual duck before going vegan, for that matter) Tamales, other than one of those Amy's meals Soy curls Certain varieties of squash Teese (I can get Daiya and FYH around here, but I've never gotten around to ordering Teese) Thanksgiving Tofurkey Matzoh ball soup (I've been meaning to try the VWAV recipe for years but never got around to it.) Spanakopita (mainly because I am intimidated by phyllo) Rutabaga Jackfruit Natto (I don't plan to try it either) Vegan cheesecake
