The 2010 Beaujolais Nouveau should be available for purchase in the US this Friday! This is one of my favorite parts of November.

I've never heard of this, but Wikipedia just gave me the low-down. I'm curious! They only ferment it for a couple weeks? Madness!

It's good. But the 2008 vintage and I had some issues. Namely, I drank an entire bottle of it on NYE, and barely had anything in my stomach. It wasn't until I had about an inch left in the bottle that it finally hit me. I was so drunk that I puked multiple times on the way home. When my old roommate and I got off the bus, apparently I lost my balance or started to pass out. He caught me and claims he saved my life. He definitely was my hero that night.
So. Yeah. It's good. But eat something substantial than asparagus if you plan on drinking the whole bottle.

So. Yeah. It's good. But eat something substantial than asparagus if you plan on drinking the whole bottle. By NYE it's probably past it's prime anyway. This is not wine to age. Drink it up fast! But find someone to share a bottle with so you don't make yourself sick! Oh, and does anyone have a favorite Beaujolais Nouveau food pairing? I hear it's traditional to eat it with fresh sausages. Does it go great with seitan sausages?

I love the Beaujolais! I work for a wine distributor and it's always an exciting day when it comes in. if you haven't tried it before, be sure to chill it first!

I'll be stopping by the local liquor stores all weekend to see if they get any. I am horrible at pairing wine with food, but for something special like this I'd probably try to at least make French food. It's pretty fruity and light so I'd go with anything I pair with white wine. I'm thinking a nice big salad with baked tofu and a mustard vinaigrette.

I've never heard of this before! Do most stores get it? Are there a lot of different brands of it? I'm going to set myself a phone reminder to stop at my favorite liquor store on the way home from work on Friday.

It's pretty common and reasonably priced. We could always get it easily in Pennsylvania, and they have crazy liquor laws.

It's cheap - usually $10 a bottle or less. Georges DuBoeuf is probably the most well-known brand but there are lots of others! There will almost definitely be a big display in your grocery store/liquor store/wine shop.

I am part of a French family (attempting to establish a little street cred re wine). I think the Beaujolais Nouveau event is overrated, any year, and too expensive for what it is.

I picked up a couple of bottles. The sign at the store said it goes well with turkey, so I'm bringing it to Thanksgiving and hoping it goes well with Field Roast, too. :)

I think the fact that you can only get it once a year, and it is really only drinkable for about a month before it starts going bad just makes it a special seasonal event. It's always released the Friday before Thanksgiving, so I usually bring a bottle for that. It's an autumn tradition for me along with pumpkins and falling leaves. Have I had better bottles of wine for less money? Sure. But I've also had worse bottles for more money. Anyway, I'm enjoying a glass right now, and I think 2010 is better than 2009 was.

Finally got a bottle this afternoon. I haven't had it since...05 maybe...and it's quite delicious! Very light and fruity. Overpriced? Probably, but definitely a fun once a year treat.

I had it yesterday. Interesting. I generally like my reds to be big and bold, but this was a nice one for drinking a glass while cooking. It was only $10, which I think is incredibly cheap, but I'm used to Canadian wine prices where a bottle under $10 is guaranteed to be total crepe.

I got a bottle for Thanksgiving after reading about it here. I liked it! More than I usually like wine! It was only 10 bucks here which is cheap. I think I want to buy another bottle or two before they're all gone.

When I lived in France it was a given. Haven't bought a bottle in several years. Thanks for the heads-up.

I bought some! Mike and I both had a glass. It was quite good - I usually don't like reds. And it was £7.99, which, to me, is a good price for wine if it tastes good. Unfortunately, Mike broke the cork, so we had to put plastic wrap over the top. I'll probably have to cook with it to use up the rest before it goes off.

Do you know if you can get it in Canada? I'm always curious to try new wines!
