It's my friend's 25th birthday today, and we are celebrating on Saturday night. I have offered to make a cake, and she has requested either cheesecake or chocolate cake. I think I will be the only vegan there at a party full of omni's, so I am unsure of attempting a cheesecake. What would be an awesome chocolate cake? Icing recommendations? Recipe and/or suggestions welcome. Thanks ppk!

The Raspberry-Blackout cake in VWAV is fantabulous. And in my experience, omni's love it.

that peanut butter chocolate cheezecake in VWAV is enough to make any omni thrilled. seriously.

if not i've used the razz-choco blackout cake as well as the lowfat choco cake in Vcon with jam in the middle and some serious icing (i've done penuche as well as choco). always fantastic.

Hmmm, I don't have my recipes since I'm at work but what I think would be awesome is a double layer chocolate cake with a chocolate chip blondie middle layer. Then do oreo frosting in between each layer and then cover the cake with chocolate buttercream. Top it off with chocolate ganache and chopped up oreos.

I would second the raspberry blackout cake, but I make mine with a ganache (recipe follows)

8 ounces of dark chocolate
1/2 cup of milk (almond, soy, not a fan of rice in this)
1/4 cup butter or margarine
1 tablespoon of agave nectar/maple syrup
1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon of chocolate extract (optional but yummy)

Heat milk in pan till just boiling. Put broken up chocolate in bowl. Pour milk on bowl and let it melt slightly. Whisk together with remaining ingredients dumped in however you like. Transfer to a tupperware container and let rest in the fridge for as long as possible.
If the ganache doesn't set right, either too runny or too stiff you can put it in the microwave (gasp) or the double boiler method and add more milk or more chocolate depending on it's state.

Ta da, I just posted my first recipe and I will now go and lie down.

Sounds like raspberry blackout is the way to go! Yummmm.
However, Maggie Muggins' suggestion also sounds to die for.

I definitely would go with the raspberry blackout cake, it has always impressed everyone, vegan and omni alike! So delicious and moist.

If you're not into raspberry (which would be awesome), maybe chocolate peanut butter?
I made one for a very omnivorous friend for her birthday that had a chocolate brownie layer, a peanut butter cake layer and 2 chocolate cake layers (all from vctotw, except the brownie. Don't remember where that was from.) I put ganache between the layers and frosted the whole thing with peanut buttercream then, more ganache on top. I decorated the sides with nutterbutters. It was an amazing cake.

That sounds epic. I don't think we have nutterbutters here, so I think I would go with oreos or something if I go this route. Just trying to find out how the bday girl feels about raspberries.

If the b-day girl isn't a raspberry fan, but loves another fruit, you could make strawberry blackout cake, orange blackout cake, or whatever fruit she loves. Just sub strawberry jam, orange marmalade, or any other jam.

Confirmed she LOVES raspberries, so we're in luck. I cannot wait to make this cake!

PS - raspberry preserves = raspberry jam, right?

Wow, this is totally digging up an old thread, but since I was directed here from a sticky I might as well add my suggestion, which I made for a friend of mine on her birthday.
Two layers of chocolate cake with chocolate mousse between them and topped with a mocha frosting. It's a very 'adult' taste but still enough sweetness. It was crowned as the best thing many of my friends had eaten cakewise, vegan and non-vegan.

The cake worked out wonderfully! I had some issues with the ganache still having tiny bits of unmelted chocolate in it, but it was still delicious! I would definitely make it again.
