In AZ we have this thing called a "sonoran dog". It's a hot dog, wrapped in bacon and loaded with mexican topppings. I admit, I was kinda bummed someone veganized it before me and they weren't even from Arizona! http://veganbrew.com/2011/05/08/sonoran ... can-lager/

You should still make your own. If you have Trader Joes, they have really good vegan Italian sausages. I can't eat them anymore, because of gluten issues. But they are crazy yummy. Would probably be good with that, I would think.

I've never had, but just imagining. I absolutely loved black pudding when I ate meat way back 25+ years ago. There was no ick level too high for me. I was so excited to buy this but it's gross. The texture does a reasonable job of imitating black pudding, but the flavour is horrid. It just tastes of dried herbs and is highly perfumed. I threw half away, and I never ever do that.

I need VPud! Never found anyone to ship it to the states, though. Not that you can blame 'em, how many Americans do you know that eat black pudding? Much less vegan black pudding! Speaking of organ meat from across the pond, what about haggis? And has anyone tried this before?

^ My neighbour went up Scotland once and came back with some vegan haggis thing for my family. We took daring little bites of it and...actually it was pretty good! To be honest, not much different than most of the "roast" style products but still.

I like veggie haggis! It's usually made with lentils and nice stuff. I don't think it tastes like meat haggis (which I have eaten pre-veg) but it tastes nice.
I can't believe veggie "shrimp" exists. Like the kind of mock meat stuff you would find in Chinese markets. I suppose I'm biased because I always thought prawns were sort of gross, but I tried it once just to make sure and can safely say I will not be having it again.

Most of them are bean-based. MacSween's is the most popular, it seems, but I always liked Simon Cowie (I think) better as far as supermarket-available versions go. The best I've ever had was Redwood's, but it was only sold one year. (The mustards said it would be out again this month, but tomorrow is Burns Night and Holland & Barrett (the most reliable stockists of Redwood Foods) doesn't have it, so I don't see it happening if they've entirely missed the Scottish holiday season.)

I really like the MacSween's one. I haven't had it for years though.

So I guess I should have said "I can't believe they made vegan haggis available in the US", haha. And you guys actually have a variety of choices. Wow. Now I totally want to do a Burns Supper tomorrow. Guess I'll have to settle for neeps, totally sweet tatties, brah and scotch. Or maybe just scotch.

YES, i loved Simon Howie's veg haggis! i've only had it once, years ago when i lived with housemates who ordered groceries on the internet every other week. i'll have to see if i can get over to Sainsbury's tomorrow and see if they have any. MacSweens is pretty good, and it's pretty easy to find in UK health food stores, but it has the disadvantage of containing nuts so Mr Ketchup can't eat it. and i haven't tried the kind that comes in a can.

(and since it's hydrogenated, i could feel my arteries hardening) i have no idea if haggis is supposed to be that waxy, but i did not enjoy it one bit.

Love a veg haggis! MacSween's is super tasty. I need to mind and get one from the shops on the way home tomorrow night.

Does anyone know what brand of vegan haggis comes in a darker packet? I can get the McSween one and do enjoy it, but I had this other brand once and liked it better, but have never remembered the name. I'd know the packet if I saw it though.
ps Haaggis wrapped in puff pastry and baked is the utter biz.
