Hello!

I was wondering if any one know a good basic recipe for cake layers for a cake like this : http://bliminjast.blogg.se/images/2011/dsc_0210_143027550.jpg

I've been looking but a lot of sites just recommend using cake mix (we don't have those brands in Sweden) or the recipes aren't vegan.

I just need a simple basic one. :) I've been thinking, do you think I could use the recipe for golden vanilla cupcakes in VCTOW? Or does cupcake batter not adapt well to becoming cake batter? :)

Thanks a lot in advance and if you ever swing by Sweden, I'll be waiting with cake and coffee!

Hey! I'm not sure what rainbow cake is because the link doesn't lead anywhere. Can you replace it with something functional? I would love to help but this could mean a few things.

Oh! Come to think of it, basically, that recipe works well with becoming cake batter! Just be careful to fold the dye in instead of mixing it, or you'll overwork the dough. I've done this countless times before (cupcake to cake) with this recipe.

I've made a couple of rainbow cakes successfully. I used the vanilla cupcake batter from VCTOTW with food colouring gel folded in. I iced the cake with velvet frosting and it worked really well.

Thanks a lot you guys! I really appreciate you took the time to help me out!

If I could just bother you a little bit more.. Most recipes for rainbow cake suggest an 8 inch pan, does anyone know if I need the whole batter for one pan? I am going to need six layers, so do you think I need to make six batches of batter? Of course I could just try and see but it would be really helpful if anyone already knows!

Many many thanks again!

@fauxfrancais I really hope so! And as I said, if you ever swing by Sweden... (this goes out to all of you!)

If you're aiming for thin layers like in the picture, I think you could get away with less than six batches worth of batter. Maybe four batches, then divide equally into six portions and tint. But keep in mind that you'll probably want to trim/level, so having six full-batch layers as your starting point might be the safest bet.

Depends on how perfect you want your layers to be. I used a full batch of batter for each layer, but trimmed and leveled each one.

I think I'll use thicker layers, but we'll see! I promise I'll upload pictures of my cake (even if it turns into a disaster!)

Seriously, Thanks so much for taking the time to help!

HERE IT IS EVERYBODY! :D A bit eaten but what can you do? I used the vanilla cupcake recipe from VCTOW, one batch per layer! Also had to level the cake a bit but s'all fine!

Thanks so much for your help, without you the cake might now have seen the light of day!

Gorgeous! I've been meaning to do something like this for awhile but haven't had the occasion yet (and actually have never made a layer cake either). But hopefully in the not so distant future!
