I remember reading years ago that some zatarain's mixes are vegan? If so is the original jambalaya vegan to anyone's knowledge? If so that is dinner tonight...

Sure looks like it from the Zatarain's product website: http://www.zatarains.com/Products/Rice- ... ginal.aspx

It doesn't even have "flavors" in it as an ingredient.

(Also, I got so excited when you posted this thread, because long after I stopped eating pretty much everything my family ate, my mom would still make me Zatarain's red beans and rice and I am really forking sentimental about it.)

Ah yeah, I used to make that red beans and rice all the time. It was fantastic.

Yes, I am not feeling well. It seems like comfort food. I am adding some frozen veggies, veggie links, tomato sauce and hot sauce!

The black beans and rice is even better than the red beans, I think. I think the gumbo is too. I went through a time when I'd eat like a box a day.

I love the red beans and rice. And it always makes me think about "Baby Got Back". I've never been able to make homemade red beans and rice taste as good. Tasty, tasty chemicals.

I've looked at them before and they looked vegan. I used to love the dirty rice. Thing that turned me off is the sodium! Jeez!

There's a lower sodium version of the dirty rice. Haven't tried it, though, so I haven't looked at the ingredients.

I have tried the low sodium ones and promptly returned to the salty goodness. Hey, it's a once in a great while lazy day food, so I am assuming it won't kill me :/

Where can I find this yummy sounding salty, chemical laced wonder? I mean what part of the grocery store is it normally housed in?

It's with the rice-a-roni type products.

I just bought the red beans and rice and the black beans and rice, and I'm kind of inordinately excited about them. I'm kicking it bachelorette style for the next 10 days, so a quick lazy meal might come in handy.

remember when they had the vegan woman on that extreme couponing reality show? I think she bought a ton of this stuff in that episode? I never tried it but I'm curious.

Damnit that spambot was right. Zatarains in a burrito would be excellent

I made the red beans and rice in my rice cooker for dinner tonight. I added some red bell pepper, and then some collard greens at the end and just let them steam for a few minutes. A perfect lazy weeknight meal. I was surprised by how much it made -- seems to be about 3 generous servings.
