I wanted to make the roasted vegetable romesco sammiches from IDI tomorrow, but I don't have any good bread in the house. And the recipe requires good, hearty, chewy bread.

I've also sworn to myself that I am NOT buying any.

Any online recipe suggestions? Preferably ones that don't require a stand mixer, and no instant yeast (I only have regular dry yeast in the little jar).

Thanks!

looks promising- it's gloppy enough you could mix it by hand, i think.

if not, on that site is a whole wheat one that specifies "no stand mixer", it has KAF in the title.

Thanks torque! I'll have to try that whole wheat loaf next time!

In my search I realized I wanted buns and went with this one - they turned out beautifully.

Did you make 4 or 8 with that recipe, Moon? Which would be best for the IDI romanesco recipe? I've wanted to make that ever since I got the book, so I really want to make that ciabatta.

I got 6 perfectly sandwich sized rolls from that recipe. They were decently large and fit all the fillings, but not too big to jam in your face.

Pics won't post for me right now, will try again later.
