im excited to try the cream cheese is i can ever find it. i like tofutti but i wouldnt mind trying another kind.
plus whenever i try to make frosting with tofutti it never looks like frosting. more like a blob topping.

im not a huge daiya fan but i will probably try the cheddar slices maybe once. i dunno.

now i want a sandwich with summer fresh tomatoes, other vegs, mustard, and cheddar slices.

And tofurky slices are round, too I guess so...turkey and swiss on english muffins? I think daiya did a great job with the cheddar. I've fed it to plenty of omnivores and they agreed it tastes like the real thing. Not sure how you'd replicate swiss or provolone. It's been a while, but I remember swiss tasting kind of bitter whereas cheddar was much sweeter and kind of mild.

With swiss, it has a certain texture along with taste. They could approximate the taste I think possibly, but approximating the taste and texture would be near impossible I think.

I'd be willing to try the cheddar slices on english muffins for breakfast sandwiches with sausage and tofu.

To be honest, I don't really care much what they taste like. I assume I'll like them because I like all daiya products so far, but what I'm really looking forward to has more to do with function than anything else. I just want something to be the glue in my paninis and sandwiches. The shreds fall off and get all over the place and the wedges can't really be cut into big, even slices.

Maybe that is why I'm not normally a daiya fan, I like cold sandwiches and avocado is generally good for those. I may be willing to do a breakfast sandwich though (warm) with the slices.

you guys, it's not gonna taste like swiss. the one thing i know i can count on from daiya is a complete lack of authenticity. it might taste like balls.
Possibly, but that's the chance we'll just have to take, innit?

i didn't say i was opposed. i'm just suggesting that we manage our expectations.

Ha! Of course they decide to make cream cheese right after I finally learn how to make my own! I'll have to calculate whether their cream cheese is more or less expensive than cashews.

I actually really dislike Tofutti - it is super beany and only acceptable in recipes where the flavor is masked. Based on the taste of Daiya's other products I think there's a pretty good chance they'll get this one right. Maybe they'll also make a sour cream that doesn't taste of chalk and sorrow.

The texture would be easy. Just pull out your hole-punch and/or BB gun!

I had a dream last night that these were available at my grocery store but they were like $6 but I bought them anyway to make grilled cheese. But I never actually ate them in my dream so I can't let you guys know how they were.

ooh what's your recipe? I like tofutti, but I buy it infrequently since I'm not often at a store that sells it and I don't like it enough to go out of my way for it. It would be nice to be able to make my own for spontaneous bagel brunches and various recipes.

I use Miyoko's recipe from Artisan Vegan Cheese, which is super easy if you have access to vegan yogurt.. Here it is: http://www.food.com/recipe/cashew-cream ... ese-490223

I go the full 48 hours even though I just spread it on bagels and stuff. It's even better if you leave it in the fridge for awhile before you eat it - a few days or even a week. Last time it grew a tiny bit of mold on top but I spooned off the mold before refrigerating and haven't died.

Holes aren't texture! Texture is the feel, the firmness, how it feels when you bite into it.

I'm pretty happy about the strawberry cream cheese, but I so wanted that rounded container to be feta.

ETA: artisan vegan cheese's sourcream tastes like... sour cream! No chalk, no tears, just smooth tangy goodness.

Is it awful that I kind of wish they had a gluteny one? I mean, yay for the GF people, but I wish they made both! Oh well. Maybe that GF crust will surprise me and be good.

Post subject:  Re: Daiya Slices!

yeah, there are gluten free vegan pizzas, wish they'd release both. I miss a good glutenful crust.

I just really want one of those puffy, freschetta-esque crusts. That would be the best.

Post subject:  Re: Daiya Slices!

I feel like they probably won't, because they already have the line of pizzas with Tofurky, and making their own gluten-y pizza would compete with that?

All of their products are gluten free though, so they're probably trying to keep in line with that.

Post subject:  Re: Daiya Slices!

Yeah, kinda bummed that they don't have a regular pizza. But, I guess now they won't be stepping on Tofurky's toes and they're tapping into that growing GF audience. I read just today that 30% of Americans were trying to eat less gluten. Methinks fad.

Post subject:  Re: Daiya Slices!

Amy's Kitchen and American Flatbread ALSO make frozen pizzas using Daiya- enough frozen pizza using Daiya, already! See, this is my issue with Daiya, I feel like it took over the vegan market at an abnormal rate. It's now used at most pizza places too.

I will commit myself to extensive pizza tasting research. You know, for the good of the PPK.
