Agreed. Personally I would just lump the baking books in with all the rest of the books and let the popular vote determine whether a baking book gets chosen or not, because not all of us are bakers. Plus some of the aforementioned cookbooks have baking sections too. :)

I'm in! I own:
-Vegan Vittles
-The Vegan Slow Cooker
-Fresh from the Vegan Slow Cooker
-Appetite for Reduction
-The Kind Diet
-The Best Veggie Burgers on The Planet
-Refresh
-VWAV
-V'con
-VPITS
-VCIYCJ
-VCTOTW
-Vegan Planet
-Eat Drink and Be Vegan
-Vegan Brunch
-How it all Vegan

To be honest, my Isa & Terry books get most of the action, and the other ones get sorely neglected.

that is a good idea, makes things a lot less complicated for me!

i'll start compiling a list of all the cookbook nominees so far so if any of y'all have others you want to add, just make a new reply rather then editing your original comment.

i'm looking forward to this!

today is wednesday, march 13... let's keep those cookbook suggestions rolling in until monday, march 18 at 11:59pm EST (whenever it is one minute before midnight in whatever timezone you are in).

i'll post the top 30 compiled cookbook list shortly sometime on tuesday, march 19 (or wednesday at the latest). shortly thereafter i will set-up the online voting for the top 30 cookbooks. poll code does allow multiple answers (i don't think there is a limit) so perhaps i will suggest limiting the voting to your top 5. i believe i will limit the voting to just the one time, unless y'all see a need to be able to cast you vote each day for however long the voting period remains open (such as a few days).

i'm anticipating a start date of april 1

Thanks for organizing this bookwormbethie!

I think it makes the most sense for everybody to just vote once, for up to 5 books off the top 30. And leave the poll open for a couple of days.

Another thought: Instead of having a free choice Isa/Terry week, maybe it could be a free choice Isa/Terry/whatever you want week? So long as everybody participating picks a book and makes 3 recipes from it? That way if a baking book doesn't get selected the bakers could still do one of the baking books, if that's what they wanted. If that makes things too loose and complicated then forget it, but it was a thought. :)

I think we should start with this. Then we can start before April first and have more time to figure out the next books.

Edit: whoops, sorry! Just saw your comment. Sounds like you have it figured out :)

Zine week sounds good! I just gathered mine down from a shelf with the intention to look through them and mark new things to make.

I like Erinnerung's suggestion of doing it by author instead of by book. I'd definitely like a free choice Joni/Celine week (vegan subs, sandwiches, hearty meals, 500 vegan recipes, best veggie burgers) and I sorely underutilise the Donna Klein books.

The 2 weeks instead of 1 would also work better for me personally.

My only vegan books are V'con, Sweet Vegan by Emily Mainquist, The Ultimate Book of Vegan Cooking by Tony and Yvonne Bishop-Weston and The Easy Vegan by Janet Hudson. I've never seen the last three mentioned on here so I doubt I'd be much good at recommending books. But I will play along if I can!

Oooh, I second Betty Goes Vegan.

I also really like the idea of choosing an author rather than a book, when an author has done more than one book. I think it's more inclusive, since a lot of us have at least one book by Bryanna Clark Grogan, Dreena Burton, the 30 Minute Vegan, Robin Robertson, Donna Klein, Celine/Joni... but not necessarily all of their books.

I'd also love to do Vegan Eats World, and maybe one of the slow cooker books. Other than that, I'm game for anything!

I've only made the raw cookies so far, and I only sort of used the recipe as a guide, I'd like to try them as written. When peaches come in season I am SO making the peach biscuits!

Annnnnnyway, I am off track. So I vote for Sweet Vegan! Such a pretty book.

My preference would actually be by author rather than book, especially over 2 weeks. That gives people a wider choice because some people like to get some use from their old books and others want to try new ones.

Nevermind, what I just said made no sense. I like the idea of individual books, but maybe if we could say that if you have another book by the same author that you want to use, you can sub it instead?

thanks for the continued feedback.......and cookbook title suggestions......

for now, unless anyone has any major issues, i'm sticking with cookbook titles. i feel it gives more focus to the cookbook challenge to cook specifically out of one book. plus i feel that it is going to be hard to please everyone. perhaps if someone organizes another cookbook challenge in the future, it can be done by author rather than single cookbook title.

Yeah, I think doing it by author would exclude the possibility of doing a book by someone that doesn't have 800 books (like Cookin' Crunk, which a couple of us have mentioned now)

Also, with past challenges I feel like some people would just do recipes from the author's blog or whatever if they wanted to participate and didn't have the specific book from that week? So that could just happen again.
