ooh i love you butternut!! i too have problems with the word noodle- either it's asian or it's kugel or those nasty eggy flat noodles swimming in butter if you use the word noodle.

This was basically what I was going to say, so I'll just repost it.



That's what I was thinking too. "Chilled noodles in peanut sauce" sounds like something where I'd pick up the bowl and just shove my face into it like an animal.

Agree with tofulish. Noodle Party sounds best to me but second best is noodle salad because I hate cold food (even though it's just room temperature noodles).

I agree with this. I think noodle salad, I think creamy mayo laden noodles. And I can't stand those.

When I think cold noodles, I think leftovers.

When I think noodle salad, I think things like Vietnamese bun. Then again, it gets really confusing because I suppose you could have a WARM noodle salad *gasp*, so I guess it depends on the sauce. If the sauce has a typical dressing base, like mayo or vinegar, or is rather thin, then I think you can call it a salad. Maybe. What the hell do I know? Just gimme!

See, I hate mayo salads as much as the next sane person but I would never call that noodle salad. To me, that is (bad) pasta salad. Noodle salad is something delicious, possibly involving pasta but more likely with rice noodles or soba or something.

I do like the sound of chilled noodle whatever though. Fancy!

I just did a google image search, and according to that, they're pretty similar, except noodle salad has more vegetables than cold noodles.

I agree. Pasta salad =! Noodle salad.

I don't like "chilled", for the most part. It reminds me of 90s menus.

In Australia, we don't refer to pasta as "noodles", so both of them could have gone either way. I'm often inexplicably opposed to salad, but imagine that "cold noodles" would have to be a little bit asian inspired & have lots of awesome things added, so I decided to go with the promise of awesomeness.

Ever since I saw an episode of CSI where a dead body was floating in the river and the skin looked like cold expanded noodle texture, I can't think of "cold noodle" anything. So, noodle salad. Even though it's after the fact.

After reading this thread I don't think "noodle" is a real word anymore.

I love the word "noodle"; it's even better when applied to people!

Looks like I was late to the party, but I think "cold noodles" makes me think of Asian dishes, like others menionted. Cold udon with dipping sauce, thai glass noodles etc. Noodle salad sounds like macaroni salad. Regardless of what you call it, though that recipe looks fantastic. Have to take that puppy out for a spin.

Precisely. Although I reckon 'chilled' would beat 'cold'.

I went with cold noodles. Cold Noodles make me think of Cold Noodles with Sesame Sauce, which is delicious. Noodle salad makes me think of elbow macaroni covered in mayo, which is just disgusting.

I voted noodle salad and stand by my vote after seeing the recipe in question. It's definitely more of a noodle salad.
