Has anyone else run into trouble buying KAL nutritional yeast lately? I used to get 22-oz cans off Amazon for pretty cheap, like $14 w/ free Prime shipping. Now the price has gone way up and it's not offered under Amazon Prime anymore. iHerb still lists it at $14 but says it's out of stock. I wonder if KAL is having issues??

Tell me of your internet sources for b12-fortified nooch!

Yes!! Vitacost has been out of it for weeks. I'm completely out and it's becoming a problem.

If anyone is interested in doing co-ops, Frontier will sell them for $10.65 a pound :) http://www.frontiercoop.com/

okay, so I just got a message that the nooch is on backorder from Vitamin Shoppe. They still have canisters in their stores at $15.99 for anyone who needs it immediately.

I wonder what is going on with the yeasties?

Everyone's suddenly going vegan? *fingers crossed* Have you a local cooperative? Most will let you order in stuff that's on their supplier lists.

i've never heard of KAL nooch, but what about Red Star? That's what I buy in bulk and can also buy in a shaker type canister.

Red Star is fine and doesn't seemed to be backordered like crazy online! I think some of the nooch brands taste slightly different to each other, and I like the way Kal tastes, so it is my preferred nooch. But really I would gladly accept any nooch.

No co-ops in the area, sadly.

The Red Star shakers seem pretty expensive per ounce. That might be my best option though! I can buy it locally so I will give some a try and do some price comparison.

I've emailed KAL/Nutraceutical...will let you know if they write back!

I just looked at iHerb again and their site says Kal yeast will be back in stock on/around 17 April. Here. They also sell Frontier and that is fortified with B12. It's not as cheap per oz as Kal, but it's another option!

the red star shakers ARE pretty expensive per ounce. i bought one before i discovered the bulk bins, soooo much cheaper! i'm pretty sure the nooch at earthfare is $9.99 a pound and i paid a high price for my red star 5 ounce shaker bottle, maybe somewhere around $6? i bought it last august and it's shoved in the back of the fridge as i just dip into my bulk bag of nooch when i need it (stored in the cabinet)

does nooch expire? like could i safely use the nooch in the shaker container that's been in my fridge since last august? i certainly wouldn't use anything out of my freezer that's been in there that long.......

I've used 2+ year old nooch and lived to tell about it. Didn't even keep it refrigerated.

(I know, I know... how did nooch last that long?! It was an acquired taste for me.)

I think the "official" shelf life of nooch is something like two years. But of course it depends on the conditions it's being stored in. I think nooch purchased in August would be fine.

bookwormbethie, if you're buying nooch in bulk you should probably find out what kind it is if you're relying on it for the B-12. Some nooches are not B-12 fortified, oddly enough.

ack! thanks for letting me know. i'm pretty sure earth fare stocks the red star in bulk, i think one of the staff told me that when we were talking about the red star shaker canisters, but i'll double check next time i'm there.

i do not soley rely on nooch for my daily b-12 boost. do some people do that? wow!

i take a chewable b12 50 (mcg?) tablet daily and my soymilk has b12, and i'm sure a few other random things i eat during the day do too.

i've gotten quite lazy about sprinkling nooch on my steamed veggies, i really should get back in that habit.

Some people do rely on fortified foods for B12, though from what I've read that's not really enough so it's good that you're taking a supplement anyway!
