Hello everyone!
(original cookbook challenge voting info post here viewtopic.php?f=18&t=26121)

So far, popular vote has elected the following 4 cookbooks for our cookbook challenge:
Vegan Sandwiches Save the Day by Tami and Celine
Vegan Diner by Julie Hasson
Cookin' Crunk by Bianca Phillips
Let Them Eat Vegan by Dreena Burton

Vegan Eats World by Terry Hope Romero was voted in as our exclusive Terry/Isa cookbook.
(there will also be a free Isa/Terry week too!)

However, we're doing a 5 cookbook challenge and 3 cookbooks are tied for that coveted 5th spot! Please go to the new poll below and pick just 1 cookbook! It is 1pm EST on Wednesday, March 20. (Happy Spring!) I am going to disable the poll 24 hours from now and hopefully we'll have a clear 5th cookbook challenge selected!

http://poll.pollcode.com/fy6aa

I'll be back with a new discussion post on Thursday or Friday which will include a list our challenge cookbooks, the time schedule (start date most likely April 1), and a list of online resources for recipes if you don't have the books, and anything else I think that will be useful to include!

Oh no! I so thought Chloe's kitchen was a shoe in the way the other poll was going.

I'm pretty sure when I checked at some point last night, the 3-way tie had already started......

I don't own any of these, but I voted for the mediterranean one because I dislike Robin Robertson's recipes (they're always so bland for me!) and I find Chloe to be annoying, even though I have no reason to think so whatsoever. Yay for random voting!

Shame on me.... crunkin' crunk and Let Them Eat Vegan have now been ordered. That's 4 books that have been purchased for this aswell as veganomicon last week! No more cookbooks until Christmas! I swear!

I'm excited because I have all of the books that have been selected so far. Not all of the ones in the tiebreaker poll though, so the suspense is killing me danananananananana

I have WAY too many cookbooks btw. :/

I just need to order the sandwich one, but if I get another book, I will get free shipping. Hmmm. What to order...

I don't have any of the selected cookbooks! And really can't afford to buy new ones.. Guess I'll be Googling! Or maybe I'll just use this as an opportunity to challenge myself to use the cookbooks I do have for two week periods.

There is an awesome and very very generous preview of the vegan sandwiches save the day cookbook on google books (I'll be posting that link when I do my big discussion post with other online info).

I'm grateful and surprised that I have all but one of the challenge cookbooks so far, but I'm with you, I can't really afford to buy a bunch of cookbooks for the challenge. Lucky ducks for those who have the budget to do so.... but I'm also guessing that those titles have been on their wish lists for awhile and now they have good reason to finally get them as a present for him/herself ;)

My library lets you borrow books from other libraries in the state, does yours? I have already requested one of the cookbook challenge cookbooks from mine.

hhmmm.... just checked the poll... things right now are very close for 2 of the books..... if for some reason things are tied between 2 of the books tomorrow at 1pm, i will do one last tie breaker vote for a very short period, say 4 - 6 hour period.

but who knows what can happen in the next several hours...... we'll have to wait and see and hope more people vote!

I'm due some tax back early next week and I've recently restructured my debts so that's why I had the money to treat myself. Felt so weird actually spending money since I had gone so long with not even being able to afford to buy soya milk that didn't taste like floor. So with all that I was using this to challenge myself to cook outside of Isa/Terry. So looking forward to it :)

Can I just plea at this point that when the challenge starts people don't link to recipes online that have been copied out without permission of the authors? We all know people do it, we all know it's easy to find them, but I really don't like to encourage it.

I agree. Should be only officially released recipes linked.

I'm definitely going to check my library for the titles! I forgot about that option :). Thanks for all your hard work organizing this!

Most of them (except Cookin' Crunk) are available in either hard copy or e-book from my library. Thanks bookwormbethie!

I already have a few of the titles already out from the library, so I can copy down the recipes I want to make if the book can't be renewed. I also have a few more on hold so hopefully they will be available by the time it's time for that cookbook.

Yes of course, I will only publish official links. I appreciate your concern!

I'd also like to add, that in my own personal google searching I'm not having much luck finding recipes for VEW. I'm not sure if VEW had a blog book tour or if Terry shared any recipes on her blog or elsewhere. I haven't received a reply back yet from Terry, so if any of y'all know of any legit VEW recipes shared online, please post the links here so I can share them in the big contest challenge post that I'll be creating tomorrow or Friday.

Isa shared two recipes from VEW on the ppk blog several months ago:

Scramble Tofu Breakfast Bahn Mi: http://www.theppk.com/2012/10/scramble-tofu-breakfast-bahn-mi/
Sauerkraut Mushroom Soup (Shchi): http://www.theppk.com/2012/10/sauerkraut-mushroom-soup-shchi/

Hope this helps! You're doing such a wonderful job, bookworm. Thanks again for organizing!

don't have any of the cookbooks that made it, but i'm really psyched! i saw recipes from some of the amazon previews of cookin' crunk, vegan eats world, and vegan sandwiches. i'm placing holds on all of them in the library! hopefully i can get them by the time the respective weeks come up!

i do have 2 out of the 3 fifth place books up for vote, so i'll hopefully get to use one of my own cookbooks!

Oh I only wish the libraries here had vegan cookbooks! Saying that, I'm a messy cow when I'm cooking so maybe it is safer I don't have any on loan.

Praying Chloe wins the tie breaker because I have one of her books. Otherwise I will be relying on online recipes because 5 books in one week is really bad and only fueling my shopaholic tendencies!
