I'm looking for dipping sauces for summer rolls. I usually make a coconut-peanut butter based dipping sauce which I love. However, I can't eat peanut butter too many days in row - not sure if its a small peanut allergy or what. I did a search but not see anything. I really enjoy making them with different veggies and baked tofu, just looking for new sauces. Any tried and true recipes or suggestions?

I'm a peanut sauce purist but once I made a sauce out of some sunflower seeds in the blender with some olive oil. I then mixed in some soy sauce, lemon juice, fresh ginger, apple cider vinegar, Asian chili sauce. It was a few years ago, I have no idea what prompted me to do it but it was damn tasty.

Are you familiar with kecap manis? It's a sweet, indonesian sauce that goes great with rolls. Mix in a bit of sambal, too.

this is a little bit of a trashy sauce, but I really like it on summer rolls (of course, I can basically drink sweet chili sauce straight from the bottle, so your enjoyment may vary)

2/3 thai sweet chili sauce (the one that's like neon molasses with chili flakes suspended in it)
1/3 lime juice

stir.

VeganFoodRocks - That sounds interesting. I will have to give it a try. I always have sunflower seeds sitting around not knowing what to do with them other than eat and throw in salads.

nickvicious - I am familiar with kecap manis. I should pick some up at our local store and test this out.

aiee - Ha! I love that sauce. I have countless bottles of the thai sweet chili sauce. We use it for the fried spring rolls when I make them. I love that stuff. I have used it before for summer rolls when I did not feel like making the usual peanut sauce. Never thought to mix it with lime juice. Perhaps that could cut down on the sweetness.

Thanks all for the suggestions.

glad to help! I really only include the lime juice to trick my husband into thinking I've made a real sauce, though it does cut the sweetness a bit too.
