so i haven't had problems until now with my veganism, but i had a very big moment of weakness when i had some chocolate chip cookies. thats eggs, milk, and somethin else, i think maybe gluten, i dunno, but still, i don't know why i did it, and i feel bad. is there a good and delicious way to take my mind off of cookies like that?

were you at home when this happened? Lots of problems like that can solved with a mug brownie if you're home or somewhere with a microwave and a few ingredients: http://www.instructables.com/id/Mug-Brownie

You could buy a chocolate bar or eat a spoonful of peanut butter with some chocolate chips in it. I get it though, sometimes you're just craving a cookie...If you're a newish vegan, I can say for sure that it gets easier to resist that stuff after a while. And then you just crave it until you can get home and make yourself some darn cookies!

I dunno if you feel like you've got digestive problems with gluten, but if not, cut yourself some slack. There's no real reason, nutrition wise, to give up gluten unless it affects your health in some way. You've already given up a bunch of stuff going vegan. Baby steps!

and don't feel bad...it is part of the journey: next time you run into that scenario, you will be prepared and have the necessary strategy to get you through without slipping. It isn't about being perfect -- do the best you can. Live long habits take a little while to conquer so do not be really hard on yourself or you may jeopardize the end goal. Your doing great even trying this "crazy lifestyle" so keep it up and just try to be ready for the next temptation. The cravings gradually disappear.

The best thing is your coming and talking about it instead of Alexandra'ing it and giving into what your body craves.

You could always buy something like Vegan Cookies invade your Cookie Jar and then you would always have awesome vegan cookies that kinda blow away the "regular" cookies. This leads you to converting all your friends into making vegan cookies (they will ask for your recipes after tasting your treats) and then the problem is totally moot.

Quick poll: do you eat them chip by chip or do you eat it by the handful :-)

I make soft chocolate chip cookies all the time! Honestly, I make batches of different cookie doughs, and I keep the pre-rolled dough in my freezer (I'm a cookie fanatic). I also second having chocolate chips in the house. I like to tell myself I'm giving myself a quick handful of antioxidants when I reach for my chocolate chip jar. :)

When I first went vegan, it was really easy for me because I didn't have any non-vegan things in the house. I just made sure to eat at home (I was also dirt poor at the time, so eating out wasn't possible.)

If removing all non-vegan foods from the house is not a possibility for you because of roommates/family/whatever, make sure you have yummy easy vegan snackables around if you're really worried about eating something in a moment of weakness. That's why I love fruit, chips and salsa, my pre-made cookie dough, and Trader Joe's.

we also have a bag of these awesome vegan chocolate sprinkles i found. mixed with blended quick oats, soymilk, sugar, vanilla, they make a really bizarre mug cookie dough kind of thing that sort of hits the spot when you want something sweet and sleazy. bonus: GF!

Learn to make your own chocolate chip cookies! You can freeze batches of cookie dough so you are never more than 10 minutes away from vegan chocolate chip cookies.

Lucy's cookies are vegan, gluten free and pretty okay. I've found them at Costco.

i usually put 2 in my mouth, arrange them so they're back to back and then i chomp down. (repeat until i am sated)
occasionally i'll put 4 in my mouth so each side of my mouth has a chip stack as i chomp down. (i know, my "handful" is a misnomer, but it might as well be a handful by the time i screw the lid back on.)

When a cookie craving hits and I have no cookies I take a teaspoon of PB and mash something like 5 to 10 choc chips into the top, right in the spoon. Efficient and delicious.

My favorite chocolate chip cookies are the vegan choco chip at Whole Foods in the bakery if you have a WF near you/they have that. The Lucy's cookies are OK, as are the Enjoy Life crunchy chocolate chip (but they're more like Chips Ahoy!). I'd go Enjoy Life over Lucy's, but I think Lucy's might be gluten free, too. If you can get Alternative Baking Company, Uncle Eddies, Boston cookies, or Liz Lovely, DUDE, get on that. I've also heard good things about Eat Pastry Cookie Dough.

Alternative Baking Company
http://alternativebaking.com/cookies/ (ABC has gluten free options)

Uncle Eddies store locator (looks like they have them in some CT Whole Foods)

Boston Cookies

Liz Lovely store locator
http://lizlovely.com/pages/store-locator (highly recommend peanut butter with chocolate; also has gluten free options)

Sorry if that's overwhelming. I take cookies kind of seriously. Not as seriously as I take sandwiches, but pretty seriously. Don't beat yourself up, but don't miss out on delicious vegan chocolate chip cookies!

Eat Pastry is good if you can find it! You can keep a tub in the fridge and just bake off cookies when the craving hits!

Also Chips Ahoy 100 calorie packs are lil chocolate-y chip cookie crackers that are tasty!

I forgot about divvies! They also have sandwich cookies that appear that they would be like an Oatmeal Creme Pie. I haven't tried them yet because they're small for the price/amount of calories, but I mean, I'm probably going to try them because they exist. They have other flavors of sandwich cookies, too, but I'm really excited about the oatmeal ones.

Make some damn cookies? I've served the recipe from Vegan Cookies Invade Your Cookie Jar to multiple omnivores on multiple occasions, to great acclaim!

http://veganchicksrock.blogspot.com/2011/03/chocolate-chip-cookies-invade-my-belly.html

Eggs are the biggest scam going; contrary to what most of us were raised to (mis)believe, they are 100% unnecessary for baking. In fact, if you are a cookie fancier, you should just buy the book!

They're both gluten free, actually. ;)

The soft-batch chocolate chip cookies at Aldi were accidentally vegan the last time I checked (though not gluten free).
