Sorry, not sugar coating this or being polite. The baking directions are mystifying (I ignored and cooked at 420 for 17 minutes, a little more than Tofurkey).

It is definitely cooked, but it's gummy in places, the crust is very mediocre, and there is nothing about this pizza that screams "pay $10 for me!"

The sauce is tasty. Daiya: sell your sauce recipe to Tofurkey and let people who know what they are doing make the frozen pizzas.

Maybe the mushroom will be better; this was cheese lovers.

Also, the cost. If Tofurkey can buy the cheese from Daiya and make a pizza for $7.99, why can't they do the same since they aren't paying markup for the cheese and the Daiya pizza is smaller, I think.would have to check weight.

Now, if this thing cost the same as a Tofutti pizza, I wouldn't be bisqueing (as much). For $10 I expect more. I could get a cheese less pizza somewhere and add my own Daiya for that.

We had one this afternoon. Baked it at 425 for 17 minutes or so. Didn't think it was great, and there are quite a few pizzas I'd buy before getting another Daiya one. Their box is also deceptively big! They could have saved a lot of cardboard by making it the size of an Amy's box.

If I don't want to be lazy, I'd make it myself too, but I buy frozen pizza for the nights I can't be bothered to make my own.

I haven't tried them because I have not heard one remotely positive review. We don't buy that much frozen pizza, so for the price I'll stick with Amy's and Tofutti.

Yeah, I don't get it. Did they test market these? Test the cooking directions?

I haven't seen them in the store yet but we only buy frozen pizzas for novelty to try them, usually don't buy one after we've tried it. I do have some TJs dough in the freezer that I should use sometime. I make my home pizzas cheeseless though.

but rolling out dough, opening a bag of cheeze and sporking on sauce is little more effort than opening the plastic wrap around the pizza.

Cleaning the kitchen. Rolling out dough is actually not that easy for me at the end of the day when my back is useless after working/driving. I can't get any upper body strength. I know that sounds stupid, but it's amazing how many stupid little things suck to do at times like that.

What about the pre-baked crusts that come with little sauce packets? That and a bag of daiya and you're done!

The only frozen veg pizza I have access to is the Amy's cheeseless one. Which seems to entirely defeat the purpose.

I'm not a fan of the prebaked crusts.

I always keep bread machine dough, sauce, etc in the freezer for weekends or times everyone else s having some too and can help. Anyway, I actually like the Tofurkey pizzas as an occasional treat.

I was excited that Daiya had nice varieties and hoped they would be as good or better than Tofurkey.

Haven't tried it, based on the price and all the negative reviews. If it were available at a grocery store that doesn't stock any other vegan pizzas I'd try it, but it's sitting there right next to Tofurky and Amy's. I think Tofurky w/ Daiya succeeds largely because they load that thing out to the edge with shiitake that is not daiya.

Honestly, the elephant in the room? It's gluten-free, and that gives me pause because I've had so many bad GF things. I'm glad GF & vegan or dairy allergy people have an option, but that doesn't mean companies should get a pass on selling us a steaming turd just because of what ISN'T in it.

Ah, that explains the crappy crust. It's pretty good for gluten free in that case. But if you want a gluten free pizza, Amy's is better. And cheaper.

Haven't tried it because I haven't seen any yet here in RI. Will probably still try even though it has poor reviews and then be disappointed anyways.

LW - if you ever decide to go into DC, you should treat yourself to Mellow Mushroom. I'm not sure offhand if they have other locations closer to where you live work but right now they use Daiya. I wish Cheezly was back because that is what they used to use.

I'm looking for a place to this Friday. Any ideas where would have reasonable parking?

If we're opening up the takeout can of worms, Zpizza does a pretty good vegan calzone with Daiya and veggie sassage that's tasty and cheaper than that Daiya pizza anyway. Their pizzas are expensive but the make a calzone from scratch is more reasonable. I think only some of the locations will do calzones though, the one by us (Duke St & Quaker Ln in Alexandria) was good about it but some others in town would get suuuuper surly if you asked for one.

I go to that one, but haven't seen calzone on the menu. Thanks for the tip.

I liked it but it wasn't awesome enough to spend $10. I prefer the Tofurkey for the price.

When we went, for some reason, we got parking less than a block away at the one in DC but that is obviously pure luck. If you splurged and went there, I'd also splurge on a cab :) I've been only to 2 pizza places that had vegan pizzas, Mellow Mushroom and another place (Pizza Paradiso) in Dupont circle. Dupont circle parking on the other hand was crazy.

If you look at vegdc, they have a link to show pizza places with vegan cheese, mostly the locations are zpizza but there are some other options. I love Mellow Mushroom though due to their other toppings like tempeh and I think even tofu.

I liked it a lot so I picked the first choice. but I doubt I'd buy them again. They're too expensive. For a few more dollars I could get a fresh baked pizza from three brothers.

I get it - I have nerve damage in my right hand so most of my veggies come precut in a bag or a tub.

Rustic Crust makes a decent premade crust. Also I use parchment paper on my pan so I do not need to scrape & cry...

You know, I thought that too, but then I bought one and it's totally delicious. Haven't had one of the Daiya ones because they haven't made it here yet. The only Tofurkey one we get is the pepperoni, and I think there is too much pepperoni on it, but it was decent, I guess. Premade convenience foods are just so prohibitively expensive here (for me at least), so I don't get stuff like this very often. If I want to splurge on a trashy tasting old school cheezy pizza though, it's Tofutti all the way.

Honestly, it's the best vegan gluten free frozen pizza on the market. I think anyway. But the price is high and the cooking directions are way off! I baked it at 450 for about 12 minutes and the whole middle of the pizza melted away and fell to the bottom of my oven. I was able to eat the outer ring and really liked it. I thought the crust was good, I liked it way better than Amy's GF pizza crust which is always greasy and never gets totally crispy for me.

But for 10 bucks a pop I won't buy it again with a coupon or sale of some type.
