Well guys, its that time of year again. Time to spend the season with family and eat until you end up face flat in a pile of mashed potatoes, drifting off into a wonderful food-enduced coma.
Well i'm 16 and this is going to be my first vegan Thanksgiving. I am a dessert kind of guy and wanted to make something totally awesome to bring to my family gathering. I am the only vegan in my entire family and wanted to show them how great vegan food can be! What better way than dessert?
So what is a total amazing and out of the ordinary dessert (not talkin just pies people) that will blow them away!? And remember. I'm 16, and buy my own groceries so i'm on a budget here!
Likes are welcome :)

Cakeballs are easy, yummy, and probably unexpected! Or truffles. You can snazz them up with sea salt, nuts, cayenne, etc.

Hey, just because it's pie doesn't mean it's ordinary! Smlove pie is anything but. Any cupcake I've made from VCTOTW has wowed the omnis. It's all in the presentation, so it really helps if you have pastry bags to make swirls of frosting. Oh, and the raspberry blackout from VWAV!!

I know you're not looking for pies, but the Gingerbread Apple Pie from VWAV is freaking great!! Omni-approved, too! Just ask my husband.

Last year I made an amazing apple cheesecake that was featured in Vegetarian Times a few years ago. A wonderful fall treat. Also, the Isa's pumpkin brownies are delightful. Here is the cheesecake recipe. It really will come out looking like the photo. http://www.vegetariantimes.com/recipes/9238I used organic gingersnaps for the crust because graham crackers are full of garbage.

I want to make the maple bundt from vegetarian times to take to the family event. I also want to make Susan V's Double Layer Pumpkin Cheesecake to gobble up all by myself. If I am really ambitious I will probably make some turkey/leaf sugar cookies too.

I'm planning on adapting this http://www.vegnews.com/web/articles/pag ... 1&catId=11 chocolate mousse pie with raw crust. In the past, Dreena's chocolate pumpkin pie has been a big hit. http://viveleveganrecipes.blogspot.com/ ... n-pie.html I made that early on in veganism because it's really simple and I wasn't very practiced in baking yet. Also, you could just nix any sense of traditional Thanksgiving food and make the raspberry blackout cake, maybe with a different and exciting frosting. Bc nothing beats that cake. (Except maybe an amazing banana cream pie. Oh my god I want that. I haven't had that since being vegan. Someone give me an amazing recipe please.)

Well, in my opinion, "ordinary" desserts are just that for a reason. People universally love them. Every year I want to try something new but I am always begged to just make my apple pie. So I started making apple pie and then something new but still Thanksgiving-like. I've made a bunch of the desserts that people suggested on this thread and still, I (and my family) love the apple pie. So I guess my thoughts are to consider making your family's traditional desert and if you're feeling ambitious try something new in addition. Maybe pick an ingredient (or dish) that inspires you and go from there.
