I'm trying to come up with some really fancy looking canapes because those in my household have challenged each other to give some snazzy dinner parties like real grown up people. So far we have:
Wild mushroom pate on melba toast points Little battered tofu pieces served with a tangy tartare style sauce Tempeh crumbles in puff pastry squares with caramelised onion chutney Broad bean fritters with coriander-soy yoghurt dip
l also have a desperate urge to do some kind of crostini. I saw one in an old vegetarian food magazine that was topped with some kind cheese and then a pear slice poached in port.
Obviously I must replace the cheese with something but what would be nice instead? Some kind of cashew cheese would be creamy but I think there needs to be a bit of savoury/salty/umami tang in there. I love fruit and savoury combos so I'd really like something along these lines. Any ideas?

The Vegetarian Times cashew goat cheese has a nice tangy/salty flavor that I think goes well with fruit. I bet it would work on your crostini!

Those sound excellent. Now we shall be the fanciest eaters in all the land.
No, wasn't on the old boards - Cardiff is nice indeed. It has a good tea drinking place.
