I grew up in Illinois, we called it dressing, never stuffing, and we never made it with cornbread. What about you?

I've heard lots of people around here call it stuffing, so I don't even know if it's a regional thing as much as a personal family thing. We called it dressing and it was cornbread, but I never liked the stuff. It also looks nothing like regular stuffing or dressing, it's mushy. My family likes it, though.

I should also mention that it was never inside the turkey, so it wasn't really stuffed in anything anyway.

<3 you too Meggs! maybe it was a southern/northern Illinois thing?? I just love hearing all the debates! Now that I live in Nashville, southerners seem to like it super dry and always made w/ cornbread.

Huh, it must be a southern/northern Illinois thing because I've lived in the Chicago burbs my whole life and always called it stuffing, regardless of if it was in the turkey. We never did cornbread either but now that I'm doing most of the cooking for thanksgiving I do a cornbread/baguette mixture, nom nom!

Central illinois, and we always called it stuffing. My mom just used stovetop. My favorite stuffing uses dried bread cubes AND cornbread.

I find cornbread stuffing too dense/mushy. I like bread stuffing.

I like regular bread stuffing more, but honestly, I love all kinds of stuffing. I usually make regular stuffing for thanksgiving and cornbread stuffing a week later for a thanksgiving I do with my friends because it's gluten free and one of my friends is gluten free.

I just asked my mom. She calls it dressing. What is it dressing, exactly?

we call it stuffing, i'm from ontario, it's made from chunks of bread and spices, etc. called stuffing because people stuff turkey bodies with it when they go into the oven. :(

We always called it stuffing whether it was stuffing something or not. It was always cornbread in my house.

But what is the dressing dressing?! Stuffing, I understand. Dressing, I do not.

I don't like when people call it dressing because it makes it harder to search for recipes. "vegan dressing recipe" would lead to salad dressings mostly. So if someone were to post a stuffing recipe, but call it dressing, I'd never find it.

Stuffing. Never made with cornbread, always ends of loaves that had been saved up for months in the freezer.

i've always called it stuffing, but there are people in my extended family who call it stuffing when it is inside the bird & dressing when it is baked separately in the oven.

i love cornbread stuffing and regular bread stuffing, so we normally have both. we're decadent like that.

I've always called it stuffing, and I've never had it made with cornbread. Something new for me to try!

I'm from Illinois too and we always called it stuffing and didn't have it with cornbread at home. I feel like most places though that I went out, (places like diners and the cracker barrel) always had the corn bread kind.

I solve the dilemma now by making both kinds.

Canadian prairies, and we called it stuffing, but when I lived in England it was dressing. No cornbread, but that's a forking great idea, and this year I'm making Terry's cornbread stuffing.

My family calls it stuffing but everyone else in Texas seems to call it dressing. My mom grew up in Illinois so that might be where we got stuffing. Oh and it's never cornbread.
