Wait, about cookie butter- do you folks care about bone char sugar? If so, it's not vegan.

A fellow vegan friend called after googling and seeing someone else had called. So I have not heard directly, but I don't see why my friend would lie about calling, nor the original poster.

I never paid attention to the coconut ice cream because the choco cherry soy one has my heart but my friend said that it was new. I could have sworn they had it before. Thanks!

I know the apple strudel's been gone for a while, but I still catch myself looking for that package when walking past the spot they used to keep them...

The original Speculoos is made in Europe, and so is going to be made using beet sugar, which isn't processed using bone char. Only cane sugar is whitened using bone char. Melisser has a really interesting piece about this in her Vegan Girl's Guide to Life. I don't know if TJ cookie butter is different from Speculoos though.

Yeah, aren't European things not supposed to be bone char-y? Is that something I have to start fretting about? Could it just be that Trader Joe's says all not-specifically-vegan sugars are processed with bone char?
I honestly don't usually worry about bone char because I can't afford to buy all natural things all the time, but if I know something's made with it I don't eat it. Sigh.

Thanks to my TJ's trip today, I'm going all out for myself tonight. I've been having a rather crappy day today so I'm going to treat myself. Instead of just pasta and jarred sauce, I'm going to make garlic bread to go with it. I also picked up a bag of vegan meatballs and wine for my dinner. I don't think I've had meatballs since I went vegan. I also picked up tahini sauce, kalamata hummus, tabbouli, and soy creamer.

Thanks for taking the time to confirm, Allison! But ugh, rather disappointing. Tofulish- As I wrote after my first post, a friend called them up, I'm well informed about Europe's superior sugar situation and am generally jealous of peace of mind beet sugar gives. That said, there are also plenty of products manufactured in Europe that utilize or just are cane sugar (golden syrup!), there are a number of cane sugar refineries in Europe which use bone char, and after the 2006 sugar reform food manufacturers have been using more refined cane sugar. So, point is, it's not so that since something is made in Europe it necessarily uses beet sugar. But let's celebrate that biscoff exists, and is in fact tastier!

Finally tried the Mandarin Chickenless bites yesterday. I was sick on the couch and my girlfriend baked them til crispy. She really liked them sans-sauce and I had mine with. Super sweet, but evened out with Srichacha and soy sauce over rice with greens. I can see myself keeping these on hand for emergencies....if the tenders didn't exist : )

I haven't tried the Mandarin chicklenless bites yet, but I did have the plain breaded chickenless nuggets yesterday. I had never seen them before. They are in a little yellow bag. They were the sample at the store yesterday! And then my mom and I bought 2 bags and ate an entire one. They are SO SO good. Omg. I also had the habanero lime tortillas for the first time. So good! Also my parents had kimchi fried rice in their freezer. Has anyone had this? I think it is vegan.
