Thanks to this thread, I now have a raging desire for key lime pie. I've never made one though.

I had the new Silk Vanilla yogurt today and I thought it was fantastic. I still want Whole Soy back, but I am happy with the Silk Vanilla (I thought the Silk blueberry and peach-mango were okay, but loved the vanilla--haven't tried the strawberry).

I thought it was terrible! It tasted like soy yogurt out of 2007, chalky and weird. It's definitely not the same as the old vanilla.

I think they stopped making the almond ones altogether, because it's also disappeared and they don't have it listed on their site.

Yeah, I think the vanilla is very new. Mine wasn't chalky at all! It was pretty sweet, but I like my vanilla yogurt sweet.

Oh yeah, a proper 'doesn't taste like a ring-pop' cherry would be awesome.

Every time I see this thread pop back up I think it means whole soy is back. And it's not.

Super easy! Half gallon cheapo soymilk! 1/2c yogurt! Throw in cooler with a bottle of hot water! Let cook 24 hours, changing water to keep it hot!
Chop cherries! Dilute dilute dilute!! hehe. i need a nap.
[my starter was a container of vanilla o'soy or something like that, was all i could find. first batch smelled vaguely vanilla-ish but was still okay in raita and tzatziki despite that fact.]

Dudes I'm with Fee. This thread is just a sad, depressing reminder. Yet I can't stop posting in it.

I realized today that the new Silk yogurt is called "Fruity and Creamy", which doesn't make much sense for the new vanilla flavor.

For some reason I thought that Silk one would be like fruit on the bottom and I was SO excited. I didn't care for them though; too sweet!

I miss lemon Whole Soy like crazy.

We still anticipate that we will begin making soy yogurt this fall – likely late October to early November. Since our last update, we have been doing a whole lot of planning, acquiring and installing of yogurt–making equipment, certification paperwork, and so much more! Then we'll begin deep cleaning and testing the equipment. It's an immense amount of work, but it is well worth it!

I'm just sad that I found this thread after I had already gone to the grocery, looked for plain soy yogurt, and bought plain almond milk yogurt instead as that was all they had.

Bleah - that stuff was nasty. I guess I'll have to wait for Whole Soy to come back. :(

I was so happy to find plain Alpro yogurt now that I'm in London. One of the few vegan food advantages here! (Dates are also super cheap).

I feel like that weird annoying evangelist who won't go away, but ever since I started making my own soygurt as a result of this shortage I have enjoyed 'gurt that is faaaar tastier and cheaper (even if you put my labor at a decent rate per hour!) than anything I've been able to buy. (I liked soyade, but it was always a little thin and mine is now nice and thick).

I use the Artisan Vegan Cheese recipe, more or less. The equipment you need is a blender (I use a vitamix because I can eliminate the stove step, but there's no need really) and some glass jars (I like these "quart," which means ~5.5 cups actually, glass ones I got a dozen of from Amazon for another project and kept three, which is a perfect number to have around)

Here's what you do. You go buy the pack of like 10? 12? whatever quart aseptic packages of PLAIN soymilk from Costco. Grab the tub o' cashews on the way to the checkout. You go to whole foods and you spend another $300 on a single tub of plain coconut so delicious yogurt (or your favorite yogurt).

You soak and blend some cashews (I want to say it's like 1/3 c?), drain, and blend with your quart of soymilk. Heat it up to like 110F, whisk in 3-4 T of 'gurt, then pour it into your glass jar(s), wrap in a towel, and set it on your deck in the sun for eight hours. After that, you put it in the fridge and boom, next morning delicious 'gurt. And it keeps getting better and thicker with every batch I make! Easy, almost effortless, doesn't seem to get moldy quickly like regular soygurt. It tends to separate and you can either shake it together or drain off the whey and have wonderfully thick awesomeness, depending on what you like. ETA: obviously, before you run out again you need to put aside a few tablespoons for your next batch. I have been known to get lazy and just shake the new soymilk/cashew mixture in whatever is left on the sides of the jar, and it works fine.

It's great in sauces or for a fruit yogurt you can mix in some preserves - that's what I do for my toddler and she is happy as a dog at the beach.

Annak,I think you've posted elsewhere that you used roasted cashews? Are they as good as raw?

I kinda need to try your yogurt recipe. I need yogurt.

What do you think one could do if it's not really going to be sunny or warm for 8 hours? AKA; we don't live in CA like you :(

I definitely think it's time to bust out with some homemade yogurtz.
