I just like to say/type FroYo

Seriously though, they are teaming up to make a vegan/non-dairy frozen yogurt

http://www.qsrmagazine.com/news/tcby-in ... ilk-fro-yo

There is also a big mention on the front page of their website: http://www.tcby.com/

I am excited! But this bit scares me:

Quote:
The brand has yet to determine whether the product will be available after its original 12-week run or if additional flavors will be created.

Whaddya guys think? Some people were talking about missing soy frozen yogurt in another thread this week. It's not soy, but it is vegan froyo! You will all have to tell me how it is, since the closest TCBY is like an hour away from me.

I mentioned in the vegan pet peeves thread that I will be trying my best to get to one. My closest is also an hour away. I've never had soft serve frozen yogurt, never been to tcby but I think I need to try this.

I would have to go out to the suburbs to get it here and we already have vegan soft-serve available in the city yet I still want it.

Is it already available? The TCBY website doesn't work properly on my phone.

I think this may be the first time I have cared about TCBY since the early 90s.

Yeah, I am totally getting some. Clearly we have to eat a ton of it so they will continue to serve it. :) Now I have two soft serve/froyo places close to work, I'm going to have to start eating froyo for morning snack and soft serve for afternoon snack.

Seems weird they would spend a year developing it and then only give it that short a trial.

It's really like ...our duty.

You know when people come on here insulting us for not being out there on the frontlines for the animals we can be like "but did you try the softserve at TCBY? Because I went three times last week"

I have no soft serve/froyo places near me. I do think it is my duty to support some soft serve even if it is far away for me.

Do they definitely have it everywhere? There are two stores close to me and I will go this weekend!

I didn't even know TCBY was still a thing! Sadly, there aren't any near my house or work. Oh well!

The NYC one doesn't have it. It's not a full store, just a mini one in a pizza place. The employee had no idea what I was talking about so maybe they had it and it's a communication issue?

I'm going home Sunday so I will try up there.

Correction - the only Manhattan one doesn't have it. There are also TCBYs at the mall in Queens and at Atlantic Terminal in Brooklyn.

I originally found the link on Reddit, (in the vegan subreddit) and people are kind of tripping out thinking that it might not be vegan. Can anyone confirm? I am curious. Also 99.9% it would be vegan since it is Silk, but still.

God, I wish there was one near me. There are froyo places on every corner, but no TCBY. I have fond memories of frozen yogurt.

Someone posted the ingredients on FB (sorry, can't copy paste on mobile) and other than the yogurt culture and sugar being bone char it looked fine. And someone pointed out that they use vegan culture for their soy yogurt so chances are it's the same.

I saw a comment on the TCBY site that cut and pasted a response from TCBY saying that it was vegan (https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid ... =1&theater):

""According to our Research and Development Department, the Silk Chocolate Almond Frozen Yogurt is vegetarian and does not contain any ingredients that are derived from an animal origin."

Which pretty much looks like that means it would be vegan, but there is some CYA going re: things that have a more attenuated connection such as those processed using animal products. I think its tough for companies to certify something as vegan, because there is a perception that its not really clear what is and isn't vegan - like when Starbucks won't confirm that syrups are vegan because they can't guarantee the sugar in it wasn't clarified over bone char.

The cultures might be the issue, right?

But if they said nothing was from animal origin...

This... is exciting. I haven't thought about TCBY since 1998, but there are a few within a not-awful driving distance from my house and/or work. I will be going to one asap to do my part, and by "do my part" I mean eat 14 gallons of soft serve.

I wonder if they'd let me wheeze the juice.

I almost shat myself last night when I found out, via google, and I immediately ran to the Vegansaurus facebook page to share it so they could pass the word along. Within minutes, people were bisqueing that Silk is owned by Dean Foods. So to be clear, it's okay to buy non-dairy treats from a dairy business like TCBY, but ONLY if the company who provides the base isn't owned by a dairy company.

I hate vegans so much.
