We use unsweetened original Almond Breeze too. I love it in sweet or savoury - I only dislike it in lattes/coffee.

Thanks guys, I agree almond milk is not great in coffee... My commissary carries Westsoy and Almond Dream so I'll probably go with those. I don't have a Whole Foods and Trader Joes is too far to go more than once every couple months. We go through regular soy milk for my daughter like crazy so we buy hers at COSTCO in bulk... we went on Sunday and we are halfway through the bulk package less than a week later. I wish they had unsweetened non-vanilla soy milk.

I really don't like almond milk in coffee. It just isn't thick/creamy enough.

I use unsweetened oat milk for pretty much everything. I just like it. A lot. I just buy the store brand from the nearest supermarket and it's actually much better than most expensive soy/almond/oat milks I've tried.

This. And if I can't get to TJs I get Westsoy unsweetened.

Same. I like other stuff for drinking/coffee/baking/etc. but this stuff is great to keep in the pantry and use for anything (especially savory stuff).

Given the choice, I'll always prefer soymilk because I find it richer and creamier. But I do always have almond milk on hand to switch things up. I don't find much use for cartoned coconut beverage, rice milks are kind of watery, and hemp milk is too expensive at the rate I use soymilk. Homemade oat milk is good though.

For unsweetened milks I like to buy:

Trader Joe's soymilk, both refrigerated and aseptic.
Blue Diamond almond milk and the almond/coconut blend
Trader Joe's unsweetened vanilla almond milk (the refrigerated kind only)
Whole Foods 365 soymilk

I really wish Costco would make a case of aseptic unsweetened plain soymilk like their sweetened vanilla kind. That one is my favorite nondairy milk, taste-wise. I just wish I could get it without the added sugar. Apparently it exists, though I've never seen it!

My favourite is Vitasoy Soy Milky. It's not sweet, malty or vanilla-y at all and is very mild and creamy. It's not organic, but it is made from whole non-GMO beans. I also like Woolies Macro, which is organic, but sometimes it curdles in tea, and Bonsoy is nice too. My sister recommended Freedom So Natural but it has a really strong vanilla flavour and a beany aftertaste. I don't mind Vitasoy Calci-Plus for sweet dishes and in tea, but it's very syrupy and malty so I don't like it in savoury recipes.

I would normally agree, with exception of homemade almond milk: semi-pain to use the nut bag and all, but resulted the most AMAZING thick and rich almond milk latte...

I don't like almond milk in my coffee either. It isn't neutral enough for me, and seems too thin in coffee. I find it adds a weird, almost dirty, but also weirdly saccharine-ey taste. It has never not ruined a cup of coffee for me!

What do you guys prefer to use in coffee? I always use Almond Breeze and I agree that it's too thin. And it's kind of gritty? I only make cold-brewed iced coffee, so I'm not sure if it's curdling or what, but that's what it looks like.

What I like best of all is soy creamer. I like Organic Valley or Trader Joe's best. Then comes soy milk; I got the Earth Balance unsweetened as recommended in this thread, and it's really nice.

I like soy milk in my coffee - any kind, really! I'm too cheap for soy creamer, and last time I had it in my coffee I think it was almost too creamy for me, but I could be making that up. We generally buy trader joe's refrigerated plain soy milk and I use that at home. Lots of coffee places seem to have that one kind of soy milk that I'm blanking on (any one know which one I mean? it's that one that starbucks has, I know I've seen the container behind the counter at other places too). But really, silk, tj's, edensoy, whatever - as long as it's soy milk I'm generally happy (bonus is if it's vanilla, but I never have that at home). Just not almond! I was trying to switch from soy to almond a while ago, and gave up specifically because I hated it in my coffee and keeping various kinds open in the fridge seemed silly/wasteful.

i use almond-coconut milk in my coffee and everything else. straight almond milk always seems to curdle, but the blend never does, and it's a good consistency, and it tastes like magic.

Does unsweetened creamer (soy or otherwise) exist? I've only tried the Silk vanilla and it was crazy sweet.

All the creamers I've seen have sugar in them, but the actual sweetness definitely varies. I've used the TJ's one in savory stuff (small amounts!) before without issues, but the coconut based ones are like syrup. I wish we had something like the Alpro cuisine cream in the US. Or actually that we had Alpro everything. Sigh.

Just as an FYI, the plain Costco soymilk is sweetened, too.

The So Nice creamer in Canada is less sweet than Silk but still not unsweet, if you know what I mean. I don't know if you can get that in the US. Mimicreme has an unsweetened creamer but I have not tried it.

Organic Valley is my favorite. The MOM's near my school has it, but the one near my house doesn't.

This.

On my last trip to Trader Joe's I grabbed a container of this (the tj's soy essential) after reading recommendations about it in here, to have on hand for things like mashed potatoes. I find that's the only time that using unsweetened soy milk bugs me - even with plain soymilks, I always taste a distant too-sweetness. Anyways, I used it for mashed potatoes last week, and it worked like a neutral charm.
