I don't know if maybe this is just me....but I find that persimmons taste like deodorant. (Don't ask how I know how deodorant tastes...)

I wonder if they are different cooked? I'm interested to see what people do with persimmons.

they're never around long enough for me to cook with them--i can eat four in a sitting! sorry! i've heard about people using them to great effect in smoothies, though, and maybe sorbet, if you're fancy.

i'm so jealous! one of my favorite snacks is a really ripe, mushy persimmon frozen and then eating like a popsicle :) Alien's Day Out has these muffins (http://www.aliensdayout.com/2009/10/per ... about.html) which look amazing, but maybe with a bit of tweaking as she said they're not quite perfect.

I kind of hate them. The flavor is okay, but the texture just grosses me out. I ended up with a ton of them last year anyway and made a few loaves of persimmon bread. I can't remember what recipe I used, but I basically just subbed persimmon for banana in a banana bread recipe. Turned out great!

Smoothies/puddings. When you blend persimmons, alone or with a bit of milk, they naturally firm up to create a sweet, luscious pudding! No other ingredients needed. However, I found them extra tasty with a tbls or so of nut butter. Try tahini or peanut butter. The persimmon has such a subtle flavor, so it really tastes like a (naturally) sweet, creamy, creamy pb pudding!

I too am a complete sucker for persimons. throughout the winter season there's nothing that satisfies my sweet tooth like a big, plump, juicy persimon.

Had them in a salad yesterday, but that's pretty much as far as i'm capable of "cooking" them, cos i useually just eat them the way they are, and they are indeed fruity perfection on their own

They are really good sliced and dehydrated, if you have a food dehydrator. I'm thinking you could probably dehydrate them in the oven as well but have no idea how to do so. You might want to drizzle some dark chocolate on them too. So good!

persimmon pie. if they're already squishy, freeze them whole, take them out later and eat as sorbet.

if they're not soft yet and where you live is already cold (i suspect not) you can do what we always did in japan- skin them and tie them on strings, hanging down, and put them outside where they'll get sun, and dry them. if it's cold enough the sugar will crystallize out on the outside of the fruit and the inside will get nice and thick and apricot-like, they're gorgeous. downside is that it will take a good month or so unless it's horribly cold.
