Peas and carrots are often served together as a vegetable side. There are even lots of frozen veggie bags of this combo. Is it because they are in season at the same time? Because they nutritionally complement each other? Because they are a most delicious combination? It's just tradition? Some other reason?

I'm guessing it is because they can both be boiled without utter ruination, and kids will possibly eat them even if they haven't been in an environment that modeled yummy vegetable eating.

I'd rather have my peas by themselves and my carrots roasted, just because roasted carrots of one of the most wonderful things in the world.

The little carrot bits grow in the same pods as the peas and it takes too much work to separate them.

They're both sweet, starchy, and not too bitter or fibrous, so I imagine they're easy vegetables to convince children and non-veggie-lovers to eat.

This is the best explanation so far! Thanks pandacooke! The others would be believable if it were not for this one.

I don't know but I always thought it was funny that it is commonly added to Mexican rice.
