Ooh I forgot about the Arabian Lentil Rice soup. I highly recommend that to anyone who has AFR. I skipped it when I first looked at it because it didn't look very exciting, but the whole is more than the sum of its parts.

I also really love the Sunny Summer Squash soup from the fatfreevegan blog while zucchini and yellow squash are still in season. Definitely add the optional tahini if you have it. It's a soup that's very healthy but tastes much more decadent and filling than you would think.

I keep getting hyperexcited at the local farmers market and buying too much corn, so I made a batch of this chowder last night. Which has only encouraged me to continue buying too much corn while it lasts.

I also buy too much corn while it lasts. I'm going to try the chowder from Color Me Vegan next week.

Oh, soup. I can't wait. I pretty much love any and all butternut squash soups. And onion soups. And lentil soups.

I know tomato soups are a bit more Summery, even if the recipe calls for canned tomatoes, but I just want to give a shout-out to Isa's Smoky Tomato Lentil soup with olives and spinach from the blog.

Other soups I've eaten and loved:

~Roasted Turnip & Shallot with Turnip Greens from Vegan Soul Kitchen
~Roasted Brussel Sprouts & Red Cabbage from 30-Min Vegan Soup's On!
~Cheesy Cauliflower from Soup's On!
~Sweet Potato & Red Curry from Isa Does It
~Roasted Potato & Fennel from IDI
~Butternut Bisque from IDI
~Cheddary Broccoli from IDI
~Pumpkin from Chloe's Italian Kitchen
~and I know there's a French lentil one I really like as well, maybe in Vcon?

Looking over the list, it looks like I really like roasted vegetable soups!

Pretty much any rasam.
Most split pea soups.
V'con french lentil soup, and V'con red peppers and beans gumbo
So many of the VEW soups: asparagus bisque, and the sour kraut and mushroom soup come to mind.
Viva Vegan posole.
IDI Harira!

I'm not a big stew person. Does chili count? (As the sandwich debate threads have shown, I have kind of weird views, but I usually see chili listed in stew sections. . .?) I love the chili from the Vegan Diner. So simple. So delicious. MMMMM.

I would definitely count chili as a stew. Any thick, filling-enough-to-make-a-meal soup is a stew, IMO.

I made this avgolemono soup the other day. I added fresh shelled cranberry beans and didn't cook the kale separately and it was delicious! We had some leftover baguette that was a bit stale so I made that into croutons to put on top.

I made the Potato-Leek soup again from IDI today with some embellishments which made it even better
* more garlic
* more onions
* a can of white beans where I mashed most of it with the potatoes

I like it : )

Not to blow my own horn - oh, okay, I am totally blowing my own horn - but my avgolemono wins the avgolemonolympics.

I made Viva Vegan Green Posole. It's my new favorite food. I would eat it here or there; I would eat it anywhere!

This is a great thread...I love so many soups in so many ways!

I think my favourite is still the first soup I made myself: Galician Garbanzo Soup from the Enchanted Broccoli Forest.
I love making simple wintery soups like Jerusalem Artichoke and red wine, beets and apple, Squash and Pear.
The simple Carrot and Ginger soup from The Vegan Table so homey and gardeny.
The tortilla soup from Oh She Glows is awesome...I can't remember the actual name right now.
I love love love the New England Glam Chowder recipe from IDI. Also the Cheddery Broccoli Soup from IDI.
When I first got Veganomicon I was addicted to the kale soup with the potato wedges. I haven't made it in awhile, but I should try it again!
The white bean and purple kale soup from Colour Me Vegan is also amazing. Really simple, but the broth always seems like something a little special to me.

Isa's curried carrot bisque and the white bean and roasted garlic soup will always have a special place in my heart because they sustained me thru rough financial times and continue to be magical.

I love Deborah Madison's potato green chili stew: http://www.seriouseats.com/recipes/2009 ... ecipe.html

(I double the recipe bc it's from a cooking alone book and doesn't make that much. I also add nooch because I always add nooch.)

The red lentil soup with lemon from the NYTimes is also a favorite: http://cooking.nytimes.com/recipes/1016 ... with-lemon
