I've heard a lot lately about the benefits of tocotrienols/rice bran solubles, and I'd like to give them a try. Thing is, I can't tell if 'rice bran solubles' is just a fancy name for plain old rice bran. Rice brain is about $4 for 8 oz, whereas the brands marketed as 'rice bran solubles' are about $20, and I'm not sure if it's just chic marketing or an actual difference in the product itself. If anyone has any insight, I'd be grateful!

Ok, this is the only reasonably non-woo article I can find that even remotely touches on the difference.

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/11893482

Not that it is super helpful since it discusses diabetes specifically.

I guess the rice bran soluble is the vitamins that are in the rice bran, but it has been stripped of fiber and carbs. So, helpful for people on low carb diets or have trouble moving fiber.
What I am taking from my reading is, unless you have gut absorption issues I would just chow down on rice bran. Though the solubles might be a more pleasant addition to smoothies and the like since you don't have the fibrous part to chew on.
