OK, I like turnips grated and pickled, but I roasted one tonight and ..meh.
Roasting is the only way I like beet roots. I don't like them pickled.
So I was hoping i'd groove with turnip but nope. Actually, it was more like ick.

Direct me to turnip wondefulness? Please?

Since you like turnips grated, you might also like them sliced thinly and then eaten with a yummy dip or hummus. That's all I've got to offer, since I don't like them cooked either, or even pickled! Or I guess you might disquise them by mixing with mashed potatoes, covered in mushroom gravy?

I grew a lot in my winter garden and am having a hard time eating my way through them too.

I like them in this recipe: http://galvanic.co.uk/issue1/munchy.html
(it's good with or without the beets added)

That was my first exposure to turnips. They are also not bad boiled and mashed with margarine and salt or shredded and fried up like hash browns.

hmmm.. turnip latke?
I might have to try that.
What other "use it in something you like already" substitutions are out there?
What other flavors work with them?

I love them with mole, so if you did latkes with mole that would be faboo. Also, they're really great diced, roasted with olive oil, salt and pepper. I also dig them with thai flavors.

I don't actually have much experience cooking turnips, but baby turnips are the best thing ever. If you find bunches of baby turnips, cut the greens off and chop them, then cook the turnips and the greens in some olive oil and add kosher salt and pepper. Cook the baby turnip roots first then add the greens which wilt quickly. Mmmmm.
