Do you drink hot chocolate or hot cocoa?

i am apparently the lone cocoa drinker.

In my world, it's always made out of cocoa but always called hot chocolate.

What's the difference?

I put cocoa because when I make it, there is cocoa powder in it, though I'm not truly sure of the difference.

Hot cocoa is when you mix cocoa powder and sugar and milk (and whatever else you throw in there) and heat it and drink it. Hot chocolate is premixed cocoa and sugar and often dry milk and preservatives and things, or like hershey's syrup + milk + microwave. My husband doesn't like hot cocoa (and I buy good cocoa, dammit!) but loves the cheapest packet of chocolate mix.

i voted cocoa, but i do both.

I voted hot chocolate since that's what I always call it, but it may actually be hot cocoa.

I believe the difference is that hot cocoa is made with cocoa powder and hot chocolate is made with solid chocolate.

I almost always have hot cocoa, just because it's easier.

I've heard people use the terms interchangeably, but I think you are right. Hot chocolate is made from solid chocolate melted into hot milk. It's usually richer than hot cocoa.

No, there isn't really a difference. I was just wondering what people call it.

Oh, well I always call it hot chocolate regardless of what form the chocolate portion takes.

in my world, cocoa is always hot. i have never heard a person say hot cocoa. it is cocoa or hot chocolate. i say hot chocolate more often.

I've grown up with it being called hot chocolate, but i think cocoa sounds much nicer & i always try to use that instead.

I don't know if this holds true, but in my experience more people on the west coast say "hot chocolate" (which is what I grew up calling it) and more people on the east coast call it "hot cocoa" (which is what I found people calling it in when I lived in D.C.). True?
