i ordered vanilla beans a while back, but i haven't really used as many as i expected to. i would love to do a little trade of some sort, possibly for awesome vegan things i can't find here, like white chocolate or chick-o-sticks or what have you, in exchange for some fresh well-packed vanilla beans.

anyone interested? also, if anyone has some ideas for using some of the vanilla beans i already have out?... that would be great!!

ETA: i am in canada, so that will possibly affect shipping costs.

I have access to lots of vanilla beans too so I don't need to trade, but I have ideas. You could make vanilla extract, vanilla sugar, use it in any recipe that calls for extract - lots of vanilla bean cupcakes, frosting, and ice cream. It's really good in rice pudding. I've even heard of savory sauces that use the beans.

I am possibly interested but don't have anything too exciting. I do have black salt if that strikes your fancy.

hey, thanks for the responses, everyone!

i have made vanilla extract, vanilla sugar, and vanilla bean frosting/cupcakes, but i am cutting down a bit on my sugar intake... i think i might have to make another batch of cupcakes though. it's been a while since i've made any...haha. or maybe i'll do a vanilla bean cheesecake. i will keep looking for less sugary ideas though. (ooh, and i have given some as gifts, as beans and also vanilla sugar)

dynahmite - if you are still interested, i don't think i can get black salt here, so that would work for me!

Don't forget that you could make extract in bulk and give that as gifts, too. I've heard that rum-based vanilla extract can be lovely. I think vanilla paste or powder is really just cornstarch, powdered sugar, and vanilla all pulverized to dust.
You might also make a gift of a spiced chai mix: some vanilla chunks, some cardamom pods, cinnamon sticks, Ginger, black tea, little citrus zest. Boil w/water or milky stuff or apple juice.
If you are cutting down on processed sugars, try poached pears in a fruit or wine sauce with vanilla instead of cupcakes.

Could you make vanilla body scrubs, lip balm, or soap?

hello there.
If you are looking for white chocolate chips for baking I could possibly help. I have access to bags. They aren't good for straight eating but are good in cookies.
I can't really do trades right now as I am on a limited budget but I'd be happy to mail them to you at cost. The bags are only 49 cents each, I don't know how much shipping would be but can find out. if you are interested pm me with an address and I will get a price quote to you.

I just also want to add that for a holiday gift, Vanilla Cordial is super delicious, and it tastes way more imprssive than its ingredients (vodka, brown sugar, sugar, water, a vanilla bean or two). I had some extra vanilla beans a while back and made it; people are always so impressed when I pull it out for parties. If you get a nice bottle or two and tie a ribbon around the neck--instant gift!
