Once when I was a teenager I was making pasta with redsauce for dinner one night, and I put a banana in it. I don't remember why, but I did!
Also, any raw dough made with chickpea flour, or licking plain chickpea flour off your hands. SO NASTY. I always do it though because the reflex for licking dough is so strong... It tastes like plastic, bad, bad plastic!

Had so much fun reading this thread!!
Mixmaster_mo! Pigs feet and chitlins!! I know!!! I remember eating both of those as a kid!! Its greasy, nasty, and smelly! I think my allergies were so bad, that I had a poor sense of taste (thank goodness).
I like stinky tofu! Once you get past the vomit smell, it's not so bad.
Okay, I have a list and Three stories of the worst foods I ever tried.
List: Green Olives English Muffins Sauerkraut Okra Maize Mush (taste like chewed up cornbread that someone spit out)
Story 1: Its summer, and I am about 13 years old. I open the freezer, and see that I still have a pint of ice cream in there. I open it, stick my finger in it and taste some. It was old bacon grease!!! To this day I can't think about that with out gagging.
Story 2: A few friends and I were living in Burnaby BC and working for this church. We had been there for 3 or 4 months, and the people from the church knew we were home sick. Since we were all from Texas, they decided to take us to this "really authentic" Tex-Mex restaurant in Vancouver. It was the worst most homogenous tasting food ever. The beans tasted exactly like the tacos which tasted exactly like the the rice... and so on. And the salsa was ketchup with chopped tomatoes and mild peppers. Don't get me started on the iced tea.
Story 3: I was working for a summer ESL program in Shanghai China. After school one day, the other (North American) teachers and I met this local guy who was really cool. He said he owned a restaurant and invited us to come eat there. It turns out that his restaurant was a dank dirty room in the back of an alley. He did most of his cooking in big rusty metal drum OUTSIDE. And I almost died of food poisoning. Not kidding.

Last night I cut myself a piece of cake. The icing looked a little funny, but I thought it was because it was just a little melty...nope. Mold. Moldy/old blueberries are worse, but this was NASTY. I kept rinsing my mouth out but couldn't rid myself of the flavor of mold. I had to eat a Justin's PB cup for relief!

I ate either Thanksgiving dinner at a friend's house. His family had this appetizer that they were raving about. It consisted of a whole dill pickle that was coated in mayo, wrapped in a slice of deli ham, cut into slices and served at room temperature. I didn't want to be rude, so I tried a it. It tasted like sadness.

Pre-vegan experience: My boyfriend told me to close my eyes, open my mouth for a treat, and he put a spoonful of pickled herring in my mouth. I spit it out, punched him in the collarbone and started to cry...worst ever.

tabbouleh! I think it came close to reactivating my gag-reflex that has been inactive for years. I had to throw away the container it was in, too.

I just remembered...even before I ever THOUGHT of being veg or vegan I always absolutely refused to eat scrapple based on two factors:
-made out of spare pig parts -looks like a cement block
lol...this post made the memory resurface!

I hate scrapple too, which is strange because I've never had any problems spelling.

This is mostly true of me, with the following exceptions (which should probably go on the "shameful food secrets" thread): -Canned green beans are just fine with me. I grew up eating them and still love them. Of course, now I'm a big fan of fresh and frozen varieties as well. -I like canned peas OK, but I like frozen better. -Canned corn works as an ingredient in certain kinds of chilis/soups/stews, but serves no other useful purpose.

Refrigerated BBQ chik'n slices of a certain brand that I normally love.. Seriously the worst vegan thing I've come across that I didn't make. But I'd rather eat that again than eat something with cilantro in it.
I effed up one of Isa's dip recipes and it was THE WORST thing I ever scrapped out of my blender. It had asparagus in it and it was supposed to have capers, but I used green olives. I think the asparagus was overcooked or something. It was madness, but totally my fault.

This doesn't sound that gross, but I seriously hate soba noodles. When I was in Hiroshima for uni, we went out to Miyajima one day, which is well known for its oysters. So of course, everyone except me wanted to go to an oyster restaurant for lunch. There was nothing there that I could eat, so the waiter brought me out a bowl of plain soba noodles. I was so hungry that I ate it, but I haven't been able to touch them since. Just the thought of them makes me gag a bit.

I hate:
Mushrooms Any sort of cold soup/vegetable juice Whole garbanzo beans (but I love them as hummus/chickpea cutlets/falafel, etc) Any sort of bean/lentil that's too firm in texture
and a story:
When I was a kid in Madrid I went to a public school where it was acceptable to force-feed children. Lunch went like this: your family chose whether you stayed at school to eat lunch or came home, and the lunch break would last 2 1/2 hours, if I remember right. I was one of the lucky kids that got to stay at school for lunch. I had lived in the US for six years prior (though I am a native Madrileña) with a grandma that didn't like cooking, so I had no exposure to Spanish food. I was picky and hated most of everything. Lunch was a three course meal, and you had to stay in the lunch room until you finished everything, and I was routinely force-fed when the supervising teachers got impatient with me. To this day, I still hate brown/green lentils, whole garbanzo beans (and cocido in general), and any sort of seafood. god, I can still remember how gross the merluza was, yuck.

The first time I tried tofu, it was a nightmare. I had no idea how to cook tofu, I didn't have any cookbooks back then. I thought I'd make some burgers so I just mashed the tofu and mixed it with cheap, disgusting salsa, flour and salt. It took a year of rehabilitation before I could even think about tofu again without throwing up. Now I love it though. But not with salsa.

Grützwurst - a particular disgusting german version of black pudding, served with equally disgusting sweet (!) pickled pumpkin black pudding liver calamari cheese with nutella (stoner idea from my youth - don't try it) anything overly salty or filled with artificial sweeteners cold hard-boiled eggs mayonnaise Twinkies liquorice aniseed (I like it in it's alcoholic variations, though - on ice, after dinner) anything in aspic Pfeffernüsse
I am one of those strange creatures who - as a child/teen - was disgusted by loads of foods which later became my absolute favourites. Examples:
Gorgonzola (or any other blue cheese) Sheep and goat cheese Fondue and Raclette Olives Garlick Fava Beans Fish (Mackerel especially) Sage Horseradish
Things I loved as an omni which now disgust me:
Gulasch Loin Ribs Anything with gelatine in it bacony bits in scrambled eggs Pinkel & Grünkohl (the English wikip. entry claims they are a kind of Grützwurst - but, as far as taste and texture goes, they exist in a parallel universe) Königsberger Klopse (old-fashioned Prussian meat dumplings, served in a creamy, slighty lemony sauce with capers)
