i did not eat it, but this week my cousin made a dessert for the kids.
it was several flavors of gelatin, made separately (already, gag-a-licious). Then mix up condensed milk, sweetened condensed milk, and coconut milk in the blender. then dissolve plain gelatin and throw it in the mixed milk thing. the smell of the plain gelatin was so raw and brutal and nasty that it smelled like rawhide dog bones (which is sort of what it is, isn't it). then mix all the shiitake together. the plain gelatin smell was so strong it overpowered the jello smells. i was so nauseated the whole afternoon.

this wasn't actually something I ate but a funny story.
We went to a lunch buffet and my brother loaded up on vanilla pudding. Took a heaping spoonful bite and discovered it was mayonaisse.
My most sickening food was pre-vegan when I was visiting in S. Korea and ate fried rooster feet and had to wash it down with "cow bone tea." I think this must have been a trick played on the foreigner.

Ew, one year during geology field school one of the students did that in the Uni cafeteria. When he realized what it was, he told us and then proceeded to eat more of it. I don't think he ever graduated. I used to love blood pudding.

The other day I drank acai berry tea with sneaky disgusting liquorice lurking at the end of the ingredient list. EW. I kept drinking it and going what IS that? And then after I found out I couldn't get the taste out of my mouth. Why ruin lovely tea?

Gah. Just a couple of weeks ago we went to a newish sushi place for the second time. The veggie combo rolls are delicious, however, the owner offered me, on the house, some kind of tofu (I didn't catch the name). It was soft tofu wrapped in something I can only describe as a sheet of mucus. Soft and gelatinously slimy -- I don't know how I managed to swallow it. (Manners trump gag reflex, I guess.) however, I just had a mild gag, just remembering the texture. I have to go eat something mouth-tearingly crunchy now.

I don't think I mentioned this before, but bitter melon is just the worst. When I was in the Philippines, I was living in a shelter for street kids and the house mums that did the cooking and cleaning there would make it all the time. At least twice a week for three months, it was bitter melon and plain rice for dinner for me. I still haven't recovered, and the sight of bitter melon on a restaurant menu makes me feel sick.

In a cafeteria in Germany when I was a kid, we were eating something and I was thinking "There's something wrong with this meat...it's so mushy and awful." My father lets slip that it's liver, and my brother's, sister's and my forks immediately clatter onto the plates at the same time. My mom gave him the stink eye--they were eating it, idiot!
But nothing has been more disgusting than natto, the only food my body has ever physically rebelled against eating. Texture of snot, smell of moldy gym socks.

Yes, natto is top on my list too. I was introduced to it last year at a cooking class and everyone loved it but me, and I really really tried to love it too! We made natto sushi and the combination of the gummy fishy seaweed wrapper plus the chunky gym sock mucus almost made me pass out.

Sorry to say natto is my worst thing, too. Everyone seems polarized by it, so when I saw it on the menu, I had to try it. I literally gagged. I was sitting at the sushi bar though, so I didn't want them to think that I didn't like it or that I was unworldly and didn't know what I was getting myself in to. It took my a while yo even eat steel-cut oats after that because of the texture and sense memory.

Is it it lame to say arugula? I hate, hate, hate arugula. It makes me my throat tingly and sort of makes me feel like I can't breathe.
Maybe I'm allergic.

I love natto. Love the sliminess, the stink, the texture of the beans. And I love it with the hot mustard.
I might have already mentioned this two years ago upthread, but I hate baby corn and baby carrots. And cooked celery.
The most disgusting thing I ever bit into was a scoop of salad at a "vegetarian" restaurant in Osaka that upon further inspection contained hundreds of tiny little fish with their heads still on. Oh my goodness, it was revolting.

SHEESE!
I was excited to be able to buy it, as there's been no vegan cheese for sale round here for years (maybe about 12 years ago i could get tofutti slices) but the smoked cheddar one i got tasted so bad, i thought maybe it was rancid, as it tasted similar to rancid coconut oil, or spew. So to test this theory, when i spotted it at another shop, i bought some, a different sort of cheddar that i can't remember and it tasted like slightly milder spew.
BTW i love Miyoko Schinner

Which Sheese? To me Edam was awful, every other I can eat. I love Smoked Cheddar. ashley wrote: Is it it lame to say arugula? I hate, hate, hate arugula. It makes me my throat tingly and sort of makes me feel like I can't breathe.
Maybe I'm allergic. The first time I tried it I thought: "How the hell can people eat it?" Now I love it (but it took me 9 years). I might learn to love coriander leaves (cilantro) one day.

I had the same thing with dill. (maybe it just tastes better on vegan stuff than on salmon?) next challenge: tarragon. It's hard but I keep trying.

Oh my god, natto. My body won't let my swallow it. I try, but it keeps coming back up. It's the most revolting thing ever.
Also, like 8ball said, shirataki (yam) noodles. Grossest texture ever.

I have never tried another green I didn't like, so I'm cool with hating arugula. It is dead to me. Maybe I'm weird but I like shirataki! Yes, the fish smell is disturbing and terrible, but I kind of like the rubbery texture. Definitely not an acceptable pasta substitute, but I think they are a nice addition to a stir fry.

Oh definitely shirataki. I made them one time and could not even get past the smell when they came out of the bag. I also hate cilantro.
In my pre-vegan days, the top of the list is venison heart and a chicken foot. The venison heart I could not swallow and I did not even try to eat the chicken foot. We were at a Chinese restaurant and they had these steamer basket things. One of them said chicken leg in spicy sauce. So I grabbed it, got it to the table and saw that it was a chicken foot. No leg, just a foot. I do not know how you would even go about eating that and I wasn't about to find out.
