EPILATOR.
this is the best thing ever. so effective. so easy to use. hurts a bit, but mostly like getting a tattoo. you know, that annoying pain that fades.. not nearly as bad as waxing, and WAY easier if you ask me. i've only done my legs and arms so far, but damn.. it's been 3 days with the arms and they feel gorgeous.
my friend borrowed me hers (after a good spritz of alcohol, of course..) and i was instantly hooked.

i usually get weird little bumps from shaving, so this is perfect for me. and waxing is too expensive/too much active work. the epilator takes way less work, and while it does take a little time, i can read and listen to music while i do it.

i just felt like i needed to share. the best thing is that it is both vegan AND works well for me. i'd definitely recommend getting one, if you're into that kind of thing.

What kind did you use? I've been considering waxing for the summer, since I have sensitive skin and coarse hair. Trying to trim for swimsuits is a nightmare, not to mention it would be nice to not worry about sandpaper legs on multi-day trips.

i just ordered one online the other day! it's not here yet, but i am so excited to try it out.

How does it work? It just yanks out one hair at a time? How fast is the regrowth?

i'm pretty sure the braun silk epil series are good all over - my friend has another type of braun silk epil, which worked great aswell. and they're pretty cheap - i'll save tons on wax and shavers this summer.

i don't know how long the regrowth is, as i just started doing it 3 days ago, but so far no regrowth on my arms.. and when i shave it takes 12 hours before my hairs start to grow back. my friend uses it 2-3 times a month, to make sure she stays soft and hair free - and when she shaves, the regrowth takes a day or so.

I like my epilator a lot! I have a Braun epilator that I bought 2 years ago and I've managed to convert my sister to epilating as well.

It yanks out mulitple hairs at a time. I never get quite as smooth after epilating as I did when I waxed myself, but it's much less messy than doing a home wax job. I do feel like I have to epilate more frequently than I used to wax, but it's still way way better than shaving.

and yes, it is sort of like 20 tiny tweezers that move super fast.

I liked it but stopped using after a few bad bouts of ingrown hairs that scarred my legs. Definitely keep an eye out for those.

Most important question (much more important than any hypothetical pain):
How long do the hairs need to be so you can use an epilator? I mean, would I have to wait until I have ugly visible longish hairs everywhere until I can remove them??

nope, they don't have to be very long at all. that's always been one of the things i hated about waxing..

It's a good option, I've been epilating for probably 10 years. I've gone through a few epilators in that time though. Right now I have an Emjoi, as far as I can tell they have no involvement in animal testing.

I really want to try one! The only thing is, I'm kind of really afraid of the pain...I shouldn't be, right? I mean, I've had multiple piercings, large tattoos, and stretched ears...surely I can handle this, right?

Does it work around swimsuit areas? I'd be worried about that.

But so far, it's looking like I need to get one of these things.

I've been epilating for about 10 years. I had my legs waxed a few times first, which weakened the hair roots and made epilating less painful. It thins the hair over time and I now have a few hair free patches on my shins. I haven't done it in about 3 months because, like tofulish, I ended up with far too many ingrown hairs and wanted to clear my legs of them for this summer. I've bought a home laser machine but haven't gotten round to trying it yet.

You need to ex-foliate and moisturise really well every day to lessen the ingrown hairs.

It works around the bikini area, just make sure you wear knickers if you don't want to rip out the wrong hairs (ouch!) and be careful of any little folds of skin.

I just looked at one that has a special armpits / bikini zone attachment. Sounds a bit painful, but I'll spend some more time browsing reviews anyway. (Besides, I can't really afford one, so I'm going to spend a looong time browsing reviews...)

+1 for the epilating, my Braun Silk Epil expertly handles all of my body hair removal except for bikini, which I can wax myself. I will never, ever go back to razors, and can't imagine how much money I've saved since I switched, which was at least 5 years ago.

I do everything once a month, and that's all.

I use my regular epilator on my bikini area and my armpits. Depends on your pain tolerance, I guess. I don't think it's bad.

yeah you really need to be diligent about exfoliating.

What do you guys use to exfoliate? I've been thinking about these too because my skin/hair does SO BAD with razors. so bad.

I just get fine sugar/sea salt in bulk and use that in the shower. Dry skin brushing helps a lot too.

oh yeah and I've posted this a bunch of times before, but google homemade tendskin, it will save you from ingrowns.

how effective is this? i'd love to try, but i'll have to order witch hazel from the UK, so it will be expensive.. BUT if it is super awesome, i will.

It's really amazing. It's the only thing that prevents ingrowns on my bikini line. I think Torque said she used a different soothing herbal extract because she couldn't get witch hazel in Brazil, so you could experiment and see if other things are available at an apothecary near you.

So do you get more ingrown hair with an epilator than with waxing or shaving?

i bought one a year or two ago but it just hurts toooo much for me. i've got very pale, sensitive skin, and thick, dark, coarse hair, and it was just toooo much pain (and i have a pretty high tolerance for pain.) i so wish i could do this, but besides the pain, it also wouldn't get all my hair. i'm talking about my legs, by the way. and ingrown hairs, yeah, yikes.

maybe i'll give it a go again. maybe i just need a better one, but i think the one i got wasn't a super cheap one. oh well. i'm jealous of all you ladies that can do it!!
