I have been a big fan of gasbuddy.com for a while. I discovered that gas stations right across the street from each other can have as much as 20 cent per gallon difference in price. GasBuddy.com will tell me what the cheapest place is for gas in my area.

When I was at the gym tonight I saw a piece on the news that said it is the same situation with prescription medications at pharmacies. Each pharmacy has to negotiate their own deals, so pharamicies within walking distance of each other will have different prices for the exact same drug.

Enter goodrx.com

Type in your prescription and you location. It will tell you where in your area you can get it and rank the results by price. The news piece said that depending on your situation you could save 20% or more. One couple that was interviewed saved $2000 a year.

Thanks for that--will send to my dad.

I got in trouble last week for trying to get a script filled at Costco. Apparently, if you take a controlled substance script to a new pharmacy, they assume you are a criminal.

i found out recently that AAA gives Rx discounts.
so if you have to buy meds for your pets or if you have meds that your insurance doesnt cover or you have no insurance you can get a AAA discount.

it's different for each med but worth a try. i think the pharmacy has to be a participant in the program but i believe CVS and Walgreens both are. those are the 2 big ones around here.

ive found the Rx by mail is the cheapest if you health insurance will cover it. i can get 3 months worth for the same price of what i would pay for 1 months worth from the pharmacy.

it's crazy.

I've also read that Costco tends to be the cheapest pharmacy around and that you can get coupons for non-generics by Googling on the nane of the drug + "coupon"

no, it makes sense. BW is just saying that there's a "gas buddy" for prescriptions.
