Here's the thing. I love, love, love nuts. But eating a lot of them isn't a very good idea for me!
What happens is when I eat a lot (about 0.5, can also be less 0,3 lbs) I get stomach ache and diarrhea the next day.
Really, it feels like I've had a colonic cleanse, and I feel three pound lighter, which I also probably am.
Yes, nasty subject.
First time it happened was after an overdose of cashews, at the time I thought it was because I hadn't peeled the carrots before eating them. When finding out this wasn't the problem I thought it was because they where of a cheaper brand and I figured the oil they had used caused it. But it also happens when eating raw cashews, almonds, peanuts -regular and dry roasted and peanut butter. Never eaten extreme amounts of other nuts so I don't know if it will happen then.

So, could this be me having a mild allergy towards nuts? I feel no discomfort of any kind after eating them, apart from my toilet visit the next day. The stomachache is only due to the stuff that wants to get out, I feel as good as new after I leave the toilet.

Or could it just be the fact that nuts are relatively high in fiber?
Or is it such a thing of a fat overdose?
Could it be the combination of fat and fiber?

Sorry if you're all grossed out now, but it has been going on for more than two years and I'm sort of curious. Am I the only one this happens to?
I have to limit my nut intake if I know I have to be somewhere the next day, like have an early class or have to go to work.

I don't know the cause but I've noticed the same thing. For about a year I had access to free assorted nuts at my job and would eat at least a cup a day. My poop was not too thrilled but I didn't get any stomach aches.

Half a pound of nuts or anything equally fatty would do a number on my stomach, I think.

holy crepe. 1/2 a pound of nuts is a lot! I would think that could definitely cause some digestion problems.

I got really bad diarrhea once after eating a ton of raw nut pates from this restaurant. I had no idea what was going on, but then I could basically see what i'd just eaten coming out again. It could have been the equivalent of a half pound of nuts.

I was just curious, so I looked it up. Half a pound of cashews is over 1200 calories! Not that that matters, but sometimes i'm just astounded by how many calories are in certain foods

I think the fat in that amount of nuts would really cause my stomach to be upset!

I have IBS, so anything really high in fat makes me a bit quesy. That's a lot of nuts though, a serving size is only 1/4 cup.

Don't really think I have IBS.
Probably more of the fat overload, for here comes gross fact #2: when this happens you can actually tell that there's a lot of fat in the ..ehm..excrements because it also looks like someone poured vegetable oil in there. Yes, that's right, I admit that I look.

I know, nuts are extreme high calorie and quarter cup is probably enough, but why make them so darn good? And I'm pretty far from fat anyway, but with this going on, I probably won't gain from them either.

BTW, also happens when I over snack on pumpkin seeds. Mmmm, roasted and spiced pumpkin seeds.

yeah, i wasn't saying you shouldn't eat that much because you'd gain weight. it's just too much of a good thing that is 75% fat.

doesn't everyone look?

i think the fat could indicate that it's an overload that's not getting absorbed by the body. excess unabsorbed fat can cause loose bowel movements too.

oh nuts. so delicious. so dangerous.

Do you have issues with your gallbladder? Usually problems with that are accompanied by a ton of pain in your upper abdomen after a heavy fat meal, but it would cause fat to be undigested. Or, maybe just don't eat that many nuts in one sitting! There's probably nothing wrong with you, I suspect that your poor gallbladder and liver can't keep up with your fat intake and that's why it is coming out of the opposite end. If it doesn't happen when you eat a smaller portion of nuts then it's definitely the amount. Moderation!

Yeah, I think it is just the high concentration of fat. It makes things move, ya know?
