I work a fairly physical job, and my back has started hurting (enough to disturb my sleep). I want to catch this early and not let it develop into something worse. I have coverage for a chiropractor, physiotherapist, and acupuncture, and massage therapy with a doctor's recommendation. I'm kind of scared of chiropractors because I don't trust them not to make things worse (I know, I know). What has worked for you guys?
Oh, also, I am going to try to start back up with yoga. Although should I wait until my back doesn't hurt to try to strengthen my back muscles, or is it okay to do it even when I'm sore? Also I have personal trainer contacts so I can get a free program design from someone qualified.

i'm dealing with similar issues. basically, my back has been in more or less amounts of pain for about 8 years. it is definitely MUCH better when i regularly do yoga and get monthly massages. i'm afraid of chiropractors too. right now it is particularly bad cause i'm lugging a heavy baby around all the time and don't usually get the chance to work out on a regular basis. i'm considering chiro or osteopathy, it's so bad right now. i just got home from a massage and my therapist was begging me to stay for a whole other hour so she could get some more work done.
if you have the time and money, start yoga now! massage might help fix some major issues too, but i don't really think of it as being that useful for maintaining a healthy back.

I'm going to sound like a nag and say: go to a doctor first.
Someone close to me put up with significant back pain for months, tried chiropractors etc and was eventually diagnosed with cancer. The back pain was referred pain. Please get persistent back pain checked!
