Just wanted to say this month will mark my 5 months! I was so worried i would always want them but i really don't! Even if i get a drunk craving they still sound nasty. Very relieved!

And one note about ecigs- they suck! I only hit one maybe once or twice a month and i wake up the next day coughing as if i really smoked. I think that's a sign they are not very good for you...

Well done, SkottieMcFlea! You know you're succeeding when even the drunk cigarette holds no appeal!

Rosie, my most recent bout of smoking was after having quit for a year. It does feel discouraging, but you can quit again if you want to!

This is true. I'm just annoyed at myself, I thought I would never smoke again but there we go.

Has anyone tried those e-cigs to help quit smoking? I bought some nicotine-free hippy tobacco but it's like smoking twigs so don't think that will work.

Also, good on you Skottie :)

Rosie- the e cigs work great to help quit cigarettes specifically but it's very hard to quit the e cig itself. They definitely satistfy cravings. I dont "smoke" them that often but tooons of my friends do. They swear by them! My only issue is they make me feel kinda gross and ive seen people super addicted to them for very long periods of time. Altho ecig dependency is better than giving to the tobacco industry fo sho!

Also thanks guys and gals! *High fives*

Ok, I finally gave in and bought one of those vaporizers. I think it's the best way to help me stop smoking real cigarettes. Haven't had a proper one in three days so far....my plan is to decrease the strength of the nicotine in the fluid as I go along so in theory I will give up this thing too.
I'm on the 11mg stuff, next batch will be the 8mg and so on.

10 days-ish now, and I'm using the vapouriser less already. Like only a few times a day....which is good considering I was smoking 20 a day.

I am totally buying a vaporizer as a birthday gift for myself next month. This smoking nonsense has got to go!

I haven't had a cigarette for two weeks. I've been smoking an ecigarette but it makes me nauseous so I haven't been using it that much.

Good job, blondie! I've had one (bummed) cigarette in the past 9 days. Here we go again. I really want to quit for good this time. It's expensive, gross, and I don't want to be a smoker in my new city. Plus, I've already noticed my endurance during yoga and running (ugh) are much better.

Perhaps the best time to quit is not when one is planning a move across the country, but...I can do it.

Joining you guys here. I'll be 34 Saturday, started smoking at 17, so I've been a smoker almost half my life. I've quit before with hypnosis, stopped for close to a year, and a few times using the Easy Way book, but always went back, I think because I never genuinely wanted to quit before, it was always a case of I should quit to save money, I should quit because I know it's bad for me.

This time though I genuinely want to quit, I'm embarrassed of how I smell, my sinuses are draining all the time and I feel like crepe, and I know I'm starting to really show some premature aging. Couple that with a healthy dose of guilt because I know cigarettes are far from vegan friendly, and yeah. I'm done, this time I'm stopping for good.

I'm trying the nicotine gum at the moment because I know my addiction is two fold, one part the actual habit of smoking and one part actual nicotine addiction, so I figure break the habit first, then once that's under control in a few weeks, start subbing in regular sugar free vegan gum for nicotine gum a little at a time until I'm completely off it. I downloaded the Smoke Free app too to help keep me motivated.

The nicotine gum is really disgusting, but less disgusting than smoking, so that's a bonus.

I love all the support in this thread. It's my first full day not smoking. I just woke up, and I usually smoke pretty much immediately, but I didn't and honestly the desire to isn't that strong. No nicotine gum yet either, it's so gross I'm not touching it unless I absolutely have to.

High fives, to everyone! Yeah!

I found out last night that my uncle has quit smoking - this is a pretty big deal and I'm so happy. He's only two years younger than my dad was and has smoked as almost as long and has never really had a desire to quit before, but he seems really happy about having quit.

I haven't had a cigarette in six weeks! I'm still using the ecig intermittently.

hurrah to you blondiefk ... my eldest sister (20 -25 a day smoker) died of lung cancer at age 57 ...

smoking only looks good in old black & white films (but killed many former movie greats) ...

Anne who has NEVER smoked ...

I'm at almost a month quit, and I have zero desire to smoke. I'll get little habit pings at certain times but they pass so quick I barely notice. I don't remember who mentioned it, but someone in this thread talked about a quit smoking app, and I want to thank them because that's made a HUGE difference for me. I love watching all the numbers for my health and money saved and all that climb.

All I've been able to think about for the last week in my emotional hell is buying a pack of cigarettes and smoking.

But...I haven't. I keep thinking about it, and thinking about it, and wanting it...but every time I have the opportunity, I don't buy any!
I am considering this a win. First time I've ever been stressed/unhappy and not smoked. So, yay me!

Bumping this thread as I went to see the practice nurse today for advice on giving up. After going through all the options we decided to try Champix - apparently it has had a lot of success with "hardened smokers". Has anyone else quit using this drug? Any success stories gratefully received!

I couldn't try it because it's contraindicated for people with severe depression/history of suicidal ideation/suicide attempt but my boyfriend successfully used it (though he also has a history of depression and suicide attempts - we're a fun couple.). One of the common side effects are bad nightmares and he did have those but stuck with it and quit.

Congratulations on quitting!
