I have a bunch of white spots on my arms. I've noticed them over the past year, but I'm so pale they don't show up much. I guess I am seeing them more now after getting some sun while driving. They dont do anything, it or feel weird and are perfectly smooth. I was ignoring them, but I noticed a few new spots today, all large freckle size or smaller.

Any ideas?

I don't want to bring them up with my doctor unless I really need to. I always have such a long list of crepe to discuss that I feel like a freaking hypochondriac. Plus, I can't go back to see her because I haven't made any of my specialty appointments yet (all 4 of them; can't afford more co-pays right now). If I go see her, she will lecture me about needing the follow-up endoscopy that really can't afford again any time soon.

Blech.

That seems extreme? I don't want to go Google because that will definitely freak me out.

I'm mostly just wondering if this is just a harmless random thing people get.

It could be tinea versicolor. It sometimes--strangely--can be treated with a dandruff shampoo.

It kind of sounds like keratosis pilaris. Or it sounds like what mine looks like when it's not inflamed, anyway. A lot of times my bumps are more white than red and pretty smooth.

It is really not extreme! I have it, as do most of the women in my family. It's thought to be some sort of auto immune thing, and it's not generally indicative of a bigger problem... You just have spots where your skin loses its pigmentation.

(It's one of the least gross maladies I have ever seen google images for, though extreme cases are weird looking!)

ETA: the "it" here being vitiligo.

Oh. Lovely. I googled. It's apparently another thing caused by anemia.

*sigh*

I can't forking get this crepe under control. I'm spending $50/ month just on iron supplements!

Actually, my last blood work was good, just low stores.

Maybe there's something you can do about heavy periods? That's what screwed up my stores and you've hinted at this being a problem in other threads. Luckily, I tolerate both tranexamic acid and NSAIDs well and they work for me.

One of the specialists I need to go to for the anemia. I just don't have the money left for more copays when I'm still struggling with the physical therapy and I'm now unemployed.

I know bisqueing about copays when many don't even have insurance seems bisque-y, but they add up! On top of medications, those $30-50 visits are tough when there are multiples and then copays for tests too. I'd need about $450 to do all the things I'm supposed to do (including endoscopy with anesthesia). But when everything is just in a mountain of small bills, they won't work with you. All my physical therapy bills are under $100 and each visit is a new account number, so they won't even do a payment plan.

It's frustrating. And scary, since I'm trying to figure out which meds to stop taking since any money I have until October will go to the iron supplements.

I have a white spot that's a little bigger than a freckle. I've had it for a few years, at least. Maybe longer. Should I be worried? I thought it was just like a negative freckle or something.

We can probably not freak out. I'll talk to my doctor at an appointment if I notice any of them changing.

Could it be a chicken pox scar?
