i've heard the anti inflammatory properties of turmeric help. I haven't noticed any improvement.

I know you have long hair, but using solid shampoo has really helped me. I like Lush's squeaky green...A few drops of tea tree oil at night will help, too. Also, not letting my hair air-dry (even though the blow dryer is a pain).

i noticed the blow dryer thing too! i didn't know if i was crazy! There is a Lush right next to me so I can try that product soon. How often do you wash your hair? I oscillate between never and just using conditioner and using dandruff/coal tar shampoo/dr.bronners tea tree.

Don't call it gross, it's an autoimmune disease. I hate it when psoriasis sufferers put themselves down, there's enough people out there to do that for you. Stop perpetrating the ignorance!

I wash my hair about every other day. I try to use conditioner only on the ends of my hair and I stay away from any sort of product.

I think psoriasis is fungal? I could be wrong but if that's the case, it makes sense that you'd want to keep your head dry.

does anyone else have it in other places besides their scalp?
i have patches/spots pretty much all over my body; i've found jojoba oil to be the best thing, but i'm still flaky all the time.

in the past i had it on my face!
and in the space where my leg and vulva meet.
But since i've become an adult just my hair, though i suspect i've had bouts in my nails.

Have you seen a doctor about it?

I sometimes get it on my face and the occasional patch on my leg. One of my friends is on a immuno-suppressant drug, hers is very severe and my ex-husband had large patches on his elbows & knees (plaque psoriasis).

I have a small psoriasis patch on my shin; it's gotten way smaller than it was a year ago (and waaay smaller than two years ago), but it's still horribly itchy and flaky and bleh. Makes me always hide my legs - and I love my legs! I used to wear dresses and shorts (when the weather's right, of course), but this spring/summer I only wore things to cover my mean plaque. :(

I don't have scalp psoriasis, but I do get dandruff. I always stress out that it might turn into psoriasis or something... but the thing that triggers more itchiness, flaking, irritation is stress. It sucks.

I did find that if I mess with what I eat, kind of like an elimination diet, my psoriasis gets somewhat better if I keep things low in oil (for example: I can eat whole avocados just fine, but adding olive oil to a salad makes my rash extra angry), and low in refined sugar/refined carbs, my leg plaque won't be as inflamed or itchy.

I definitely do not have a really severe case, but I still wish I didn't have to deal with this bullshiitake. :(

What does the diet consist of?

My mum has had it her whole life. She gets patches on her arms and legs and won't wear anything that shows off arms or legs because she's so embarrassed of it (it's really not that bad but she is very conscious of it).

She's had everything going from the doc and nothing seems to work for her, or it'll clear up a bit and then come right back.

I would like to know, too! And I hope it continues to work for you! :)

I've been applying fresh aloe vera stuff (straight from the fresh leaves) to my plaque for about a month, and today I noticed that it actually looks better, less inflamed/flaky, and maybe smaller? I don't have pics to verify, but I'm being hopeful.
I always use coconut oil on it, but putting aloe vera on before the oil seems to have helped. Just thought I'd put it here, in case anyone wanted to try it. :)

I've used aloe before, it def. has an immediate cooling effect.

I don't get it on my scalp but instead on my hands, so I just cover myself in hydrocortisone with aloe for a few days and it usually goes away.

i thought i was getting a plaque on my right arm, but it is now non-scaley!

If you drink beer, I read (from a study supposedly) that it makes psoriasis worse.

It's an autoimmune disease? Oh goodness. I have so many fungal and other issues. Maybe I have a weak immune system.

i've run out of corticosteroid cream, so the spots on my arms, shoulders, back, stomach, and chest have gotten noticeable.
i have cream that's supposed to control the dry/scalyness, but without the corticosteroid, it's still red.
at least it doesn't itch.

That cream makes me agitated when I use it, does anyone else get that? It does help when you get a super nasty spot though.

i've luckily have only had patches bad a few times so i don't use creams. i used to have a spot on my face for years then it went away after puberty. now it's my scalp. i kinda want to shave it again to see the plaques. but i don't currently have a flare up. yay!

You need to be careful what creams you use and how often you apply them, long term, steroid creams make the problem worse.

Soak and float shampoo bar by Lush helps on my scalp, but it makes your hair smell kinda like a tar pit. I have patches on my knees that I put olive oil on which helps with the dryness.

As Fezza said be careful with the steroid creams, maybe only use it if it gets really nasty. It can make your skin thin and fragile, and may have other side effects with long term use.

Your skin is an awesome organ even if it tries to eat itself! I have surgery and injury scars on my legs, and keratosis pilaris everywhere and granuloma annulare on my ankles and psoriasis on my scalp and knees and have only recently stopped giving a shiitake about covering up all my 'flaws'. It's hot here and I will dress comfortably. None of my rashes are contagious and the body perfection police can peas off. /end rant
