So, after weeks of hayfever and a very mild cold, I'm being visited for about 2 days with what I'm sure is a sinus infection. Not sure how long to wait before hitting the doc and getting antibiotics. I'd like to get rid of this in other ways, but I've not had a good history with using irrigation and/or steam to get things back to normal. Also, we're flying on vacation in just over two weeks, so I want to be a bit better before then so my head doesn't explode somewhere over the Atlantic.
Any suggestions or info you can share would be welcomed.

I've not gotten an infection, its still clear looking (gaaaah) but I've had a sinus headache for the last 6 days or something and I'm really over it. Ugh. Sudafed has been helping but that's about it. I have a hot compress thingy for sinuses. Its helped with pain before too, but its way hot here right now so it can be hard to use that thing right now.

for me, the neti pot helps a lot, but if you've not had a good history with it you might not wanna go there. i totally understand. i heave read that for some people soy can increase the amount of mucus in the body, so maybe if you avoid it and/or cut back for a while it might help.

Will try the hot compress...saw that on some "medical" site too. I'm still breastfeeding, so am not keen on decongestants both because they may get to baby, but also because they often affect milk supply. I've been irrigating with a spray so far. I do have a neti pot, but I'm only using boiled water now after the story about the brain-eating bacteria (I swear, I'm not making it up), and I've just not been bothered to boil the water and actually do it. Also, when it's really stuffed up in there, it's hard for me to get the technique just right and not drown myself. Ick. :p

Yeah, a hot compress will actually help.
