Since we always post about our aches and pains and issues in the Spa I figured maybe we all need some Spa treatments!

I just recently found this nail salon near me that has the most amazing spa pedicures. Including a hot stone massage, accupressure, and aromatherapy. It's wonderful and the massage chairs are to die for!

I would love to have a massage, just haven't gotten around to it yet. And I just took my first yoga class Sunday which I consider a spa treatment because it made me feel better and let me relax.

I have reflexology & then a back neck & shoulder massage. The reflexology often pinpoints places for my therapist to work on. It's awesome.
About once a year I treat myself to a full body hot stone massage. Bliss!

Oh my - that sounds really interesting. Does it colour them or just give them an opaque sheen? I've accidentally hennaed the skin around my fingernails when I hennaed my hair many years ago without gloves, and henna designs on hands and feet for Asian weddings are very popular here, but I haven't heard of hennaed nails before.

Ooh, I got a voucher for a facial from Origins today. I've never had one before, mostly because the thought of lying still while someone rubs my face for half an hour kind of freaks me out. Has anyone had one? Are they relaxing?

I've only given myself facials at home, but I would love to get one! You should do it!

it sort of tints them. it's very subtle, at least how i've done it. i can't keep a manicure (i use my nails for all sorts of inappropriate purposes and think it's inappropriate for cooking to have nail polish on) and thought it would be a good idea, plus i had a bag of henna hiding out. only thing is that you can't remove it til it grows out, so you kind of have to like how it looks (and consider how it will look as it grows out, which i think is kind of funky)
mine is not nearly as dark as the pic in this link

I've never had an Origins facial, but I have a facial at my local place as often as I possibly can afford it. It's great - but if you're expecting a half hour face rub, you'll be disappointed (or relieved). It's a sequence of cleansers, scrubs, light facial massage, moisturisers etc - it is quite relaxing, though that's not really the main purpose of it: it's more to do with your skin feeling amazing afterwards (rather than my normal winter tight/itchy/flaky look). And deep cleaned. And not blotchy any more. Having a facial is fab. For me, it's never a question of worrying about lying still, it's more of a worry about whether I'll drop off and start snoring! Enjoy.

oh, herps, i forgot, i do go for the "deep cleansing" maybe three times a year, which is an extraction facial with an ultrasound machine. it pushes my blackheads out without hurting my skin but i do look kind of blotchy for a day or two afterwards. but nothing has been so effective against my old-lady acne/rosacea, so i keep doing it.

When I used to give them at LUSH, it was awkward and messy. I hope it is better at Origins! ; )

Massssssaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaage!

Actually, the bestest day ever was my full day at the spa (a graduation gift from my hubby after finishing nursing school) which included a deep tissue massage, hydrotherapy tub (a jet-tub bath in coconut milk and pineapple) treatment with effleurage massage and full-body moisturizer, and a cleansing facial... it was my first spa day ever and I was so nervous about it, but I was a puddle of happy at the end of the day.

I'm bumping this thread because I'm going to the spa for the first time ever today! I'm getting a massage, facial, manicure, and pedicure. I'm excited, but of course I'm worried about one thing: am I supposed to tip? How much? I bought a spa package, but all services will be given by different people, so how do I tip? Like, am I supposed to give each some money after each service (which I don't think I can do anyway because they make you put all your stuff in a locker and put on a robe when you get there), or leave it all when I pay? Help! I don't want to do the wrong thing. I should probably just ask at the front desk when I arrive, huh? Am I over-thinking this?

Yay poopie!

I like to tip each person for what they did. But in a situation like this, I would leave the tip with the person checking me out and ask them to disperse it evenly. Like, I would hand them a $50 and say this is for all of the people who helped me today. They know what to do. And I'm sure in situations where you buy a package like that they are used to splitting the tips between everyone in the spa. Otherwise bring 5 and 10 dollar bills and ask for separate tip envelopes when you check out for all of the people and divide the tips however you like. But I would not worry about tipping them right after your treatments. RELAX and ENJOY!

I need a spa day! The Lush in Philadelphia has a spa now and they only use their own products. It's super expensive, but I would love to get a massage with Lush products.

Thank you! Is 20% pretty typical? That's what I tip when I eat out, so I was just going to go with that, but I'm also on a budget so I thought I'd check.

Whatever you can afford in situations like these because it's much more expensive than eating out. Anywhere between 10 and 20 would be acceptable, I think anyway!

Rock on! Enjoy!

I made the mistake of leaving my undies on when I had my first massage and they wound up getting in the way. Even though they said it was up to me. Now I know better, naked is better for massages!

I'm only getting an upper-body massage, and the idea of being totally naked kind of freaks me out, so I think I'm still going to opt for keeping them on :)

It freaked me out too, which is why I left them on. But then when the massage therapist went to do my lower back they got in the way and I had to pull them down. Now that I've had one though it doesn't freak me out anymore. They are very good at keeping you covered and not seeing anything they shouldn't.

I'm home! It was awesome, though to be honest, I could have skipped the massage. It was supposed to be 30 minutes but she only massaged me for 20, and I specifically told her I'm tight in my neck/shoulders, but she spent the least time there. I think I just got a not-so-great massage therapist. BUT, the aesthetician who did my 1 hour facial was AMAZING, and she rubbed my neck and shoulders more than the massage therapist did. The facial was my favorite of the whole experience. The nail tech was great as well and I got my first ever pedicure and manicure! I feel soooo relaxed now, my face and feet and hands look and feel great, and I'm seriously considering taking a nap :)

DO IT!! I'm glad you enjoyed it even if the massage was less than stellar.
