This reads to be legitimate, and the Chemistry Behind Vegetarianism source made sense as well. Neither of them talked about if it was absorbed the same way as b 12 from other sources. The absence of comment may mean that it is. I am looking for more information on the metabolization or absorption currently and not really finding anything. MIT nutrition says that shitake mushrooms are the best source.
