This is a very important question I'm having with a friend. He and his brothers always stand and they don't really know why. I've dated quite a few guys who prefer to sit. Why? Just out of habit?! I exhausted my contacts list...so now it's up to you, penis-having PPKers.

Not a penis-haver, but when penis-havers pee standing up, it can be super loud AND splashy. Two strikes, in my book.

I don't have a penis, but I live with someone who does, and he always stands. Standing seems a lot faster to me. I would also stand if I didn't have to remove clothing or use special tools to pee standing up.

My German ex sat to pee - he said it was cultural, and he was 2 meters tall, so splashing would have been an issue.

I really think if you're very tall peeing while standing is messy. But I've definitely wished I could stand while peeing in gross bathrooms. Smoothie's pee funnel might be a necessary acquisition....

I stand (not) loud and proud! it's what I've always done. it's faster and more convenient (I don't have to undo my belt, drop my pants at all, etc), and it's what I've always done.

however, I'll sit if it's like 4am and I'm still mostly asleep and don't want to turn on lights!

The person with a penis in this house stands.

I will add that I always stand while camping, hiking, and at concerts, using a Freshette device.

Germany has those weird inspection shelf toilets, though, which seem to increase the chance of backsplash.

It doesn't have to be either if the pee-er is even a little careful.

I am far too complex for your poll. Only one choice? All or nothing?

No way: different situations call for different approaches.

I disagree that using care can guarantee quiet and tidy peeing.

(most) American toilets that are so full of water make it harder to not splash! the problem is the toilet, not the pose!

The penis-haver in this house prefers to sit. It puzzled me (but what do I know? I'm not a penis-haver). He's also about 2m tall.

my local representative of this union stands. I never thought people really sat unless they were drunk or something.
(in case we are creating a totally skewed study, local representative is just under 175cm, but my brother who is 6'4 at least stands as well, but uses an american toilet.)

It sounds like this poll needs more options. e.g. in a forest, the local penis-haver would only ever stand (preferably in front of a tree).

I don't have one myself but in the UK it seems a man sitting to pee is considered an oddity, such a revelation usually get other guys laughing at them, making derogatory comments and sometimes even their sexuality is called into question - I know a few who do (so have witnessed aforementioned reaction to them) but it's not something that is normally discussed or admitted to, presumably because of the negative reaction.

In public toilets here there is more space for standing and maybe only one cubicle in the gents loos, if the guys I know who sit go in there everyone thinks they are having a bowel movement. And there is never an toilet paper by the urinals, usually no bins to put tissue if you carried your own (which guys here don't seem to) so with every pee a drip of wee is soaking into your underpants, even if you shake (and if you shake surely it is on your trousers as well!) What is the arrangement in other countries?

Years ago there was a piece on tv where guys standing to pee put their penises through a hole in a large sheet of blotting paper to prove how unhygienic it was. They filmed it, like that slow motion clip of someone sneezing to show the spread of spray, and in each case even though we didn't see the splashes at normal speed and the guys were convinced they hadn't splashed at all the paper was covered with splashes of urine, some lots, some only a few, some lots of tiny splashes and some larger. Ever since I have viewed trousers, touching or sitting on someones knee etc, in a whole new and unpleasant light.

This! Gross bathrooms are those few times when I wish standing was less messy. The boys who live here all mostly stand, and it makes for a super disgusting bathroom to clean.

I get that there are many situations where it differs, but I'm thinking majority of the time. I assumed when people are in public/gross situations, they just always stand, but when at home or in a comfortable spot, which is it?!

My partner is 2m tall as well and is a sitter.

There might be a Dutch thing going on because my partner (also 2m tall) sits too. Except now, the apartment we rent has both a toilet and a urinal (what?) so he can stand with minimum backsplash.

My husband sits! His dad was away on oil rigs during his formative years, so his mum had to teach him how to pee. Of course she didn't want to deal with extra clean-up, so she taught him to sit. He's Scottish, and afaik, he's never had any issues with it (e.g., getting harassed by his mates or whatever).

My guy (German) sits and I am glad for it because of the reduced splashing. I'm not sure about the reasons though, it's probably a mix of not wanting to make a mess and also that sitting is kinda comfy.

Mr Moon sits at home all the time, and stands in public as required. He is the oldest of five and apparently my MIL taught them all to sit so she had less of a cleaning load. She is German so I don't know if that makes a difference.

He is also tall and prefers it as he finds it easier, especially with our low flow toilets having a very low water line and his tip doesn't touch the water (it does sometimes with other toilets)

I figured everyone pees at the back of the toilet above the water line just below the lip preventing splashing. That spot seems to be so far away and at such an angle as to prevent splash-back and since you're not peeing into the water it's less noisy and splashy as well.

YOU'D THINK. overhearing some people pee and they use like Power Stream 9000™ in the middle of the water, it's amazing. guess there's a more nuanced gradient to consider here!
