The ones I covet are the Njoy wand. Or maybe the aneros. Neither are enormously expensive but finding decent reviews on toys is really challenging. The Njoy wand is great, but it takes a while to figure out how to use it properly. If you have that and the Hitachi, you really don't need anything else. It's still fun to covet stuff, though.

I broke down and got a Hitachi finally. Worth every penny.

I've never had any sex toys, but I think it's time to fill this lacunae. Since I have no experience and I'm generally quite happy with my own hands, what would you recommend I start with?

Again it would depend on what kind of stimulation you enjoy. Start off with something basic and possibly lower price bracket. Higher end stuff tends to serve very specific uses and carry warranties etc etc. Which is great it's what your after. If g-spotting intrigues you maybe start by looking at spot toys. I would recomend going to your local sex shop to discuss products with the staff. Especially if you have a feminist sex shop like babeland, venus envy etc. Where the staff really knows there product and can help walk you through what toys work for what kind of stimulation. Browsing and looking at floor models to feel the different settings and vibrations and also to see which toys appeal to you. Store staff can also walk you through basic care, use, cleaning, storage etc for your toys. Interacting with the materials gives you the bet idea of how these toys will work and feel for you. If you are after a higher end toy or wind up looking at some classic names check out various reviews on babeland, venus envy, youtube and other review sites to see common problems, feedbacks, criticisms and experiences.

To add on to what B_A_D said, if you don't have a good local toy store then email the folks at Babeland. They were extremely helpful and friendly when I was getting advice on add-ons for the Hitachi and such (there are absolutely no sex-positive/non-creepy toy stores near me).

The only sex shop in town is Beate Uhse, I had a look at their website and it doesn't strike me as particularly girl-friendly... I'll keep exploring Babeland, thanks for the suggestions BAD and xmiyux!

Glad to help!
I'm adding something new to my covet list. A recent blog gave a really positive review to the Sinclair Institute Onyx Glass Wand. Checking out other reviews here and there it appears to be getting some positive buzz and it is only like 30$. Now I just have to find a reputable place online selling them. Babeland unfortunately doesn't carry it.

Essencially it stimulates oral sex and learns which patterns you enjoyed and which you didn't. So depending on the mode it will cycle through all it's repertoire or spend more time on movements you like. Through each of the 100 or so movements you can cycle through speed and vibration intensity (from none to pretty high).
This vibe is external only, so it's not my everyday thing because I like internal stimulation. But when I have the time it's a great choice. Especially if you add a bit of lube to the soft surface (seriously, i could just pet it all day, soo soft!). It has a great warranty, box, adaptors for EVERY kind of plug (yay travel!), interchangeable face plates are available as well. Okay, now I'm gonna have to put Sasi on my list. 100 different movements?! Sasi videokeep in mind this DOES NOT DO anything internal. It's all oral sex simulations. You're doing a pretty good job of selling me a $150 toy...

I want everything Lelo makes! Sooo expensive though... my boyfriend just acquired the Tor "gentleman's ring", and it is... um... awesome. I want him to wear it every single time.

I've never spent more than $40 for a vibrator, but oh my gosh you have me sold on Sasi.
I'd love to get a real rabbit. I have two knock-offs and while one got the job done, I feel like the extra $50 or so would have paid off.

Boxes that I forgot I had from my old Pure Romance days. I need to throw some of these out, but what's the proper way to get rid of sex toys?

The Sasi looks amazing - I'm putting it on my Christmas list! I wish I had known about the sex toy recycling when I ditched all my old things. For some reason after I had my daughter I felt like I needed to purge everything. I'm sad about throwing out my double ended - that was super fun with company. I used to have a rabbit but I broke it within a couple of weeks. I liked it when it worked though. It was like the third toy I broke that year

So unless you like really, really light touches, it may not be worth the investment for you. Just a thought!
