I just lost my job in a dramatic fashion, got stressed out, and went into a short-lived frenzy of job applications before predictably catching a cold. I also have had to limit my use of a computer or pen since last fall because of problems with my hands.

My mood is holding up, and I'm lucky enough to have time for the cold to get better. But I'm bored. I spent last fall, winter and spring jobless and unwell, so I guess I am finally running out of ideas of restful things to do that don't make me feel like I'm doing the same things again and again. Right now I am well enough to read easy books, make jigsaw puzzles, listen to music, cook simple things, or watch episodes from TV series. Oh, and pet the cat. Other suggestions anyone?

Phone call chats, bring a book and cup of tea outside if the weather allows and get out of the house in a low key way, podcasts, write postcards to friends (since their short maybe that won't be too taxing for your hands?)

I am in a similar position, so I get how you feel (injured at work off on WCB then laid off from work while off injured so I have months of pysio limited mobility and no job to look forward to). Netflix and Youtube have kinda been saving graces for me for kinda getting me out of my head/situation.

So definitely watch some of your favorites or start a new tv show. Stranger things is really awesome. Phone calls or visits from friends/family if you can get them, I definitely wasn't doing those enough and it really brought me down. If you can move/sit outside do it whenever you get nice weather, its so much nicer feeling the actual sun on your rather than just looking at it thru a window.

Good books help and puzzles, if you have enough hand mobility maybe some light video games or easy crafts. Also take long luxurious baths or do a facial or your nails something silly but nice you normally wouldnt bother with or have time for.

Also Podcasts there are so many good ones out there, either talk show style or performance like welcome to Night vale. Maybe make a slow cooked soup or stew since it gives you a lot of down time and the results will help you cold.

Keep drinking tea.

Hugs. I have a miserable cold and have to be at work. I'd much rather be at home napping.

You should make cookies or bread and pet that cat more.

ScooterDiva, I hope you can take a nap soon.

Olives, the cat approves.

Seems like it's going around--two of my friends have it. Ever since I started taking a daily calcium, magnesium and zinc supplement, I hardly ever have colds, so I think it may be true that zinc can make a difference.

Besides reading, listening to audiobooks and podcasts, and phone calls to soothing people if your vocal chords are up to it, all of which have been mentioned, maybe easygoing games on your phone or tablet? Games like Words with Friends or Monument Valley?

I also like to drink orange juice (fresh squeezed if possible), and eat hot, creamy soups that aren't too spicy (hot pepper hurts my throat).

When I have a cold, I also invest in extra soft facial tissues as it saves my poor nose a lot of abrasion.

Oh, and if you have a partner who is willing to read to you, or bring you water, that's always nice.

I always go back to things I know I already love when I'm sick or feeling generally unwell. Reading favourite books, playing favourite games on my phone/computer, watching favourite shows (I always watch Dexter if I am REALLY sick. Lately, I'm going for Stranger Things when I am just feeling not so well) ... Anything that I know I enjoy but don't have to pay super attention t because they're things I've already experienced.

Plus ALL the blankets, ALL the pillows, and maybe a good bath.

Blanket forts and audiobooks are known to work wonders on everything that ails you.

You are all making me feel better already.

I've made brownies, drunk tea, taken a short walk to borrow books from the library, reread Johan and Peewit comics from my childhood, dozed under a mound of blankets in the middle of the day, and the cat is asleep on my lap right now. So I think I'm following just about everyone's advice.

I cook but I take everything SUPER slowly, and have an audiobook or netflix to provide further distraction from the great boredom of being minimally yet significantly sick. I read too, but sometimes colds make me too foggy and I get frustrated with books I'd normally be engrossed in.
