I went to the eye doctor today because I've been developing a sort of round blurry spot in the middle of the field of vision of my right eye. It's distracting and makes it hard to read, and I got myself into a nice "Holy cow I'm getting glaucoma!" freakout while waiting to see the doctor. So, yeah. Turns out it's Central Serious Retinopathy, which is less serious than glaucoma (that is, it usually goes away after a few months.) but is still kind of annoying. The bonus fun is that it's caused by stress. She asked about any stress in my life and I unspooled my litany of stressors. There are lots of them! Work tomorrow is going to be fun. Time to have a long talk with my boss.

Oh no- I know how sucky eye stuff can be. Do be thankful it's no glaucoma though, as glaucoma sucks monkeys.
I'm surprised there's not more research about stress and vision. I know that when I'm stressed my eye pressure is way higher.
Anyways, feel better! Is there anything they can do to relieve your symptoms besides besides stress reduction? anything involving retinas makes me nervous (having mine detach on three different occasions).
Much love and hugs and chill stress reducing vibes!

Detached retinas? Eek! And yeah, that was another thing I was worrying about. That has to be freaky as heck. They can possibly give me a steroid shot. I'm going to see a retina specialist next week, so we'll see what happens... Thanks, all, for the kind thoughts... 8)

That sucks! I am glad it's not permanent. Stress really takes a toll on the body. I have been dealing with visual snow for a year now ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Visual_snow) along with a number of other related visual disturbances. My eye doctor was clueless, as was my PC. I finally got an MRI and saw a neurologist who also couldn't give me a definitive cause. Anxiety, sleep deprivation or migraine without headaches are possible explanations. I really hope it clears up and I am not stuck with it for life like some people are.

So I went to my boss and said, "I am going BLIND from STRESS! I am NOT doing this extra two people's work any more! We need to hire another sysadmin!" and he basically said, "Well, okay. I know that, you know that, and maybe when the Mac labs fall over upper management will also finally realize it, but it won't be your problem because you should do your own actual job and not worry about it any more. Also, if you're not feeling well, go home!"
I like my boss. He does look like he's about 14 years old but he's a good guy, and he knows this has been sucky for me.
So I moved the stupid Mac stuff out of my cube and went home! Hooray!
Now can I have my right eye back, please? I was still using it.

It's a good job (well, my actual job is good), and my boss is good, and overall it's a good situation. I don't really want to leave, which is why I went and talked to him. I realized later, though, that he probably thought I'd asked to see him to come and give notice, though... I bet just coming in and saying we needed to change stuff was a relief.
