You guys that have had cancerous cells, do you mind sharing how advanced it was when you were treated?
I had CIN II dysplasia, nearly CIN III. It was a really large lesion that covered half of the surface of my cervix so my doctor was concerned because it developed very quickly (I'd had a normal PAP the year before). I had a really awesome doctor who did my LEEP and she managed to get the whole thing in one session, although it hurt like a bisque because she had to go down the sides of my cervix to get it all.
I think doctors are reluctant to mention the C word when women have abnormal PAPs because they don't want you to freak out. I was lucky that I had really great doctors who were totally straight with me about everything. My GP, who diagnosed me initially, even drew a diagram of my cervix to show the extent of the abnormal cells.
I had PAPs every 3 months for a year and then I was given the all-clear, but I have to go back at the one year mark for a follow up.
