So I know we've talked a lot about these bad boys in this forum here and there, but I feel like it's mostly complaining or telling people to take d-Mannose (which is awesome for preventative yes)

But my doctor and I recently made quite the revelation, and I feel like it could be a likely problem for a lot of you repeat sufferers.

So for the past five months I've had quite a good number of UTI's. I've gone on antibiotics four times, and had other times where just taking d-Mannose enough seemed to help. But it jus would keep coming back. I didn't think that was weird because it was always worse after an intense sexual experience, which is normal right? Well, my doctor thinks one UTI per month is not normal, even if you're having messy sex and forget to pee after. So she ordered a urine culture on top of what they do standard (just analysis), and apparently it's a strain of e-coli that's resistant to a couple main few antibiotics. So apparently I've actually had the same UTI for five months.

Time to finally kill this motherf.

Well it's not like it felt as if I had it the entire time! But yeah about six or so times in that five month period I did. Maybe lasting like four days to a week each.

e-coli in your urethra? where is that wide-eyed smiley face when you need it?

but also, i'm so happy your doctor cared enough about your vaginal well-being to look for the true source!

Well e-coli is apparently always the cause of UTI's.

YES, always always always get a doctor to analyze a urine sample if you have more than one UTI per 6 months - a lot of doctors are pretty casual about antibiotics and UTIs, but I've had the same issue as you, and apparently some people get really really sick and need to go to the hospital because the infection spreads and that's life threatening - I kept getting Sulfa for my infection, and basically the same thing happened as with you, and 1) it really messed with my tolerance for antibiotics and 2) my immune system was really screwed after and 3) ever since my antibiotic overload, I've had returning yeast infections and basically my body took a really long time to get back to normal.

Also, d-mannose, cranberry etc. are really good as PREVENTIVE measures - don't take them if you feel a UTI coming on. If you truly have a UTI infection, they may hide the symptoms, but they can't actually cure an actual infection. They can however cover up the symptoms, and again, the infection spreading is really dangerous. Some people get UTI-like symptoms after having rough sex, but the actual infection DOES need antibiotics to be cured.

If you worry you have an infection, go to the doctor. Bacterial infections are no joke.
