I'm wondering if I should stop taking my vitamins, etc. before a physical next week. I want blood tests of various things done, and want to have to most accurate results. Thoughts?

I think you should probably keep doing what you normally do, but probably don't take any vitamins from the time at which you are supposed to stop eating. But I'm not a medical professional. Why don't you call the office and ask them what they want you to do?

Normally you fast and avoid taking vitamins for at least 12 hours before blood tests.

I agree--keep doing what you normally do. If you take the vitamins daily, then yes, keep taking them. If you rarely ever take them, don't. That way they'll get the most accurate results--that is, a solid idea of what your systems are like on a normal day for you.
Also, all of the doctors I've had have asked me if I take vitamins/supplements as part of the standard set of beginning questions, so you should have a chance to let them know.

I'm so the opposite! I have an order for blood work (my request) and I'm waiting until I start taking supplements to give vegans a good name.

I really think you should consider fasting and skipping vitamins for 12 hours before your appointment. They won't let you take blood tests otherwise or if they do, they'll be inaccurate.

Oh I mean I plan to start taking them in general, get my levels up to where they should be, and then go in for the test. Instead of going now when I've been eating like crepe and havent seen the sun in 4 months.

Thanks for the input. I've emailed my doctor to find out what he thinks.

Wouldn't you take the test to see how you're faring and how you need to change things?

Wouldn't you take the test to see how you're faring and how you need to change things? haha theres no point at all in it. I'm mildy curious what my cholesterol is I guess. And really a weeks worth of DHA, B12, and looking for sun wont change my values that much. I also doubt I'll change any of my habits, I'm just doing this because I have insurance again and no job and need ways to occupy my time.
