I went to the doctor's recently and it seems I have low blood pressure. They haven't ordered any additional tests, and I was feeling okay, but in the past couple of weeks or so I have actually noticed some light-headedness (but no blacking out or anything like that). I'm eating and drinking enough calories so it can't be that (I used to suffer from an ED but not any more). I wondered if anyone else has had problems with low blood pressure in the past? Could I be deficient in some kind of nutrient?

I used to have very low blood pressure and in the end it turned out I wasn't eating enough salt. I used to actively avoid eating salt and as I wasn't eating food with added salt I was barely getting any at all, which apparently is not so good for you.

In the meantime, if you feel dizzy, try wiggling your toes! It helps the blood circulate around especially when you're standing and stops fainting.

Low blood pressure runs in my family and when I tried to go low salt, I had horrible symptoms so now I salt it up.

I've had low blood pressure since forever. my oncologist said that unless you're having actual problems (passing out, etc), then it's not that bad of a thing. your heart doesn't have to work as hard to push blood around, which is great!

I've always had low blood pressure. It can be annoying at times - I have to be careful not to get up too fast or make sudden movements - but my doctors have always said it's normal for someone my size and it's nothing to worry about as long as I'm not passing out.

count me in too. i also have the unfortunate tendency to get edema in my lower legs from eating salty things, so i'm all sorts of messed up. (but apparently if you ingest potassium along with the sodium that'll help keep you from puffing up.)

also, a vitamin D deficiency can cause orthostatic hypotension (dizzy when standing up too fast)
https://www.vitamindcouncil.org/vitamin ... ent-study/

i was averaging 93/55 but since taking vitamin D i'm up to 102/60 (it's only been 3 months)

i've been forgetting to take my pills for the past week, and even though i've been outside gardening, just today i had OH. (it's possible i'm just dehydrated, but could be the lack of dietary D? dunno.) but i had forgotten about needing to stand up slow, that's how long it's been since i last had it. just had some olives, so maybe that'll do the trick.

Low iron can also cause light-headedness.

Mine too is low ... but not dangerously low ... has been, well, forever. 98/62

did the doc not say anything about that bit of news? or was it just a general comment? I would not fret, it is better for your heart ...

Low blood pressure and low body temp, with a family history of vertigo. I definitely don't skimp on the salt, but other than that I've never been given any medical instruction. It's just something I've gotten used to.

Same here, though my pressure has gone up a bit since I've gotten older. I was told to eat more salt . It had gotten dangerously low when my detox gave me a blood pressure medication without checking my blood pressure first (70/40 iirc) and that suck ed because I had to eat saltines and keep moving around while in opiate withdrawal and I just wanted to die.

My blood pressure can suddenly drop quite low sometimes. I was told to clench my fists & pump them & apparently this helps to raise it.

Thanks for the responses :) Now that I'm over my cold I don't feel dizzy any more so I'm thinking it's probably not worth worrying about, but I might bring it up next time I go to the doctor's for whatever other reason.

I have mildly low blood pressure that I don't really worry about and generally eat a fair bit of salt.

It does really tank when I am very stressed out which causes full blown anxiety attacks and near fainting spells. So that's fun.

did i ever tell the story about hiking the grand canyon and getting lightheaded and yawning incessantly (probably because i live at 30 feet above sea level), and then we followed a path that must not have actually been a path because it narrowed to a ledge, and i felt like i was going to faint? yeah, that was fun. (and many times i had woken up since then remembering being in that situation and my heart racing and not being able to fall back to sleep i assume that's PTSD?)

My blood pressure has always been low. It was 102/70 at my recent checkup (and this was after walking about a mile and climbing three flights of stairs to the doctor's office), and even during my pregnancies the top # never went above 115. I was prone to getting a bit swoony as an adolescent, but I eat a fair amount of salt, and as an adult it's never been a problem.
