Today I almost overflowed my Diva Cup... in about 5 hours. I mean really, one more good gush and it would have gone over the rim. What the hell, uterus? I mean cool, I'm glad you're enthusiastic and all, but we have four more days of this to go so maybe you better pace yourself.

I hate when I'm bone broke and then my period decides to come early. It seems like it comes when it knows I have no tampons!

Hey Menstruating Maidens -

Haven't read the whole thread, so I hope you will forgive me butting in the middle with a slightly off topic question. My older sister has period intensity from hell - to the point where she has said "every period i lose a friend." OMFG! That's so intense. Part of it is because she is really depressed and taking shiitake care of herself in a lot of ways. (Not like I can talk with the stress eating of two packages of cookies tonight). Anyhow, I think I am going to make her a care package for dealing with her period. I'm thinking

Diva Cup
Variety of teas
Zine of easy to make, non-aggravating comfort food recipes
Inspiring, light reading; maybe a women's self-care book as well
Heating pad
Fuzzy slippers
Bell & Sebastian CD's / other chill & beautiful music

Do you all have any suggestions? Recipes? Books? Music? Items I haven't thought of that might be good to include?

Thanks for reading if you got this far. peas!

This is really sweet. I am making my sister a similar package for her birthday but it's just for her everyday life, heh.

Is she a person who likes to watch things? Tv or movies or whatever? Maybe you could burn her a DVD with something light and funny on it.

what a wonderful idea. in with the tea make sure you include red raspberry leaf and cramp bark! that shiitake is amazing, yo. a heating pad is also my BFF when i'm menstruating...and now i just use it all the time, to have a warm friend near me. i think the items you've listed are perfect. also, get her some veg glycerin soap to wash the cup with. and maybe a cute divacup holder from etsy! and perhaps include a list stretches she could do to help ease cramps...although when i'm cramping, the last forking thing i want to be doing is MOVING

you sound like an awesome sister...she will really appreciate this stuff.

These seem to only be available in the UK, however, a little spa treatie is a great idea!

Hm.. I like this idea. I have not had a TV for the past few years though, so I am woefully out of touch with what might be light and funny. The first thing that comes to mind is "dumb and dumber." I do love the shiitake out of that movie though. Maybe there is a TV show or something she might like...? Hm.

Thank you for all of the great ideas! I am really excited to put this together.

I was googling for menstrual journals to crib off of for like a little zine or journal thing:

This was one of my top five search results. Quelle Horreur! This needs to be a good care package.

Yes. Worse than a Christmas period even. Sorry, but good luck with finals!

This is the worst period ever and I just want to lay down in bed and sleep through the rest of the week.

Hellcat cramping today makes me want to hurt someone. I think 'shark week' is an awesomely appropriate way of describing it!

I personally can't stand heat, but there are some gadgets like cherry pit pillows that you can make either hot or cold depending on whether you put them in the freezer or microwave. Cloth pads, since not everyone seems to like cups and others still get some spotting no matter what. Maybe some homemade pre-mixed cookie mix, i.e. just the dry ingredients. Some people swear by vibrators to help cramps, but they're not my main problem, so I can't really say if they do the trick.

Stuff I actually use in practice - basal body thermometer to determine when the sharks will make an appearance, B vitamins to prevent moodiness, a stash of ibuprofen for my friends migraine and heavy bleeding, cup, cloth pads, iron supplements, Magic Wand because my head bloody (ha...) hurts and is making my neck sore. A punching bag would probably do more for me than relaxing music.

I'm in Canada and I found them in Wal-Mart! If you're in the US you can get them here: http://www.neotericcosmetics.com/montag ... ducts.html

But yeah, any spa treatie would be awesome ^_^

That used to happen to me nearly every semester when I was in school. Then, I went through a spell of having my period on every major holiday (particularly if it involved an hours-long road trip), seemingly regardless of what part of the month said holidays occur.

I had some weird suction issues this time. It usually happens at least once, but it seemed extra painful! You know, the weird feeling of your stomach is about to be suctioned out of your body, or the weird butt cramp thing when the diva hasn't opened correctly inside. eek

This has been one of the worst exam periods of my academic career, so of course my period came yesterday. Hello stressed out, sore, space-cadet!

Then at like 3 am last night I couldn't for the life of me get my forking diva cup to open. I almost started crying in the bathroom in the darkness.

I had real cramps this period for the first time since before I had my kid 15 months ago. I thought I had cramps in previous post-baby-having periods but this was not the case. These were like double over in pain holy shiitake what is happening to me cramps. The kind of cramps you don't remember are possible before you remember ha ha ha, these happen to me every month. So I hear you!
